Job summary

Roskam Foods in Grand Rapids, MI seeks an experienced HR Manager to lead the plant's human resources function, drive employee relations, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. You will coach managers, manage talent development, and collaborate with safety and operations teams to support business goals.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in HR or business, 5+ years in HR, with manufacturing experience; union experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, HR, or a related field.
• Five years of HR and employee relations experience.
• One to two years' experience leading a team preferred.
• HR experience in a manufacturing environment; union environment is strongly preferred.
• Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Experience conducting first-line and management training.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Leads a team of HR professionals to ensure plant HR needs are met.
• Discovers and drives continuous improvement opportunities in HR processes and systems.
• Counsels and advises managers on career development, leadership growth, and performance improvement plans.
• Partners with safety and management on workers' compensation and compliance.

Position Description and Purpose

Key Essential Functions/Duties

• Discovers continuous improvement opportunities and takes the initiative to drive incremental changes in HR processes and systems. Acts as a change agent.
• Leads a team of HR professionals to ensure Human Resources needs are met for the plant.
• Supports and interfaces with plant and strategic business unit staff to develop and facilitate strategic plans and objectives.
• Ensure employees at all levels are treated fairly in compliance with company, state and federal policies, regulations and laws.
• Leads complex employee relations investigations and recommends a course of action.
• Champions supports, and facilitates cultural change initiatives by training, supporting, and directing both employees and management staff for plants.
• Counsels, coaches, and advises managers and supervisors regarding career development, leadership growth, employee engagement, employment status, corrective action, job eliminations, performance development and/or improvement plans, reassignment, and reorganization, while analyzing and assessing legal liabilities. Provides appropriate follow-up.
• Collaborates with safety team and management on workers' compensation issues to ensure compliance and care for the employee.
• Maintains current knowledge of various HR laws, practices, procedures, and trends. Works with leaders regarding compliance with all applicable state and federal employment regulations and Human Resources policies and while meeting business unit/department goals.
• Partners with other plant HR and Shared Services teams as needed.
• Interviews, evaluates, and recommends internal candidates for hourly and/or salaried openings. May interview and assist with external recruiting process.
• Spends significant time in the production areas.

Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Human Resources or equivalent related field / experience.
• Five (5) years of Human Resources and employee relations experience.
• One (1) to two (2) years' experience leading a team preferred.
• HR experience in a manufacturing environment preferred and union environment is strongly preferred.
• Experience handling highly confidential and sensitive information.
• Experience conducting first-line and management training.
• Ability to interact with all levels of employees and be perceived as an approachable and knowledgeable resource.
• Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
