Overview

Fred Smith Company is seeking a proactive Human Resources Manager to lead and coordinate our Personnel department. This role is key to ensuring consistent and effective application of HR policies and programs that support both our employees and company goals. The HR Manager will work closely with leadership, employees, and other departments to foster a productive, compliant, and people-focused workplace.

JOB DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS

As our Human Resources Manager, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and update company policies (e.g., attendance, benefits, EEO/AA, training, salary administration).
  • Direct recruitment efforts by interviewing or coordinating interviews and maintaining strong relationships with recruitment sources.
  • Stay current on labor laws, unemployment insurance, federal regulations, and employment trends; advise management on implications.
  • Represent the company in unemployment claim hearings and appeals.
  • Manage salary administration, including pay reviews, job descriptions, and performance evaluations.
  • Plan and coordinate employee events and recognition programs (banquets, awards, retreats, training seminars, etc.).
  • Administer employee incentive and merchandise programs.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Manager and Employee Development Specialist on policy and program execution.
  • Supervise and assist HR administrative staff with records, employee changes, paycheck distribution, and attendance tracking.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive personnel information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Vice President of Personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience in related field.
  • Knowledge: Broad understanding of HR disciplines (employee relations, benefits, training, compliance).
  • Skills: Strong judgment, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills; ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Integrity: Commitment to handling confidential data with the highest level of professionalism.
  • Bilingual: Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a positive driving history.
  • Occasional lifting (25+ lbs.), ability to travel to job sites, and comfort working in environments with occasional noise, dust, or heat.
