Build and lead the first in-house HR function for a construction products enterprise in Baton Rouge, LA while partnering with executive leadership on day-to-day administrative operations.
Responsibilities
- Establish, standardize, and lead an in-house HR department from the ground up, including HR policies, workflows, and employee handbooks with support from external advisors and institutional capital partners
- Design and run performance evaluation cycles, feedback channels, and structured Improvement Plans to support accountability and growth across management and operational teams
- Serve as an approachable HR resource for in-house employees (65+) and third-party site personnel (60–70+)
- Own benefits administration and open enrollment for Health, Dental, Vision, STD/LTD, and Life
- Partner with a third-party PEO/payroll provider, leveraging UKG and integrated time-tracking systems
- Lead full-cycle recruiting and onboarding for skilled trade, yard, batch, maintenance, quality control, and general labor roles
- Drive staffing for a new operational facility, targeting 15–20+ immediate hires as the site ramps over the next 12 months
- Provide high-level administrative support to the CEO and leadership team, including task hand-offs, operational scheduling, and follow-through
- Support administrative oversight for vendor relationships, contract execution, and administrative workflows tied to support assets
- Manage potential subordinate administrative or safety personnel as the company expands and grows its regional footprint
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in construction, heavy civil, manufacturing, logistics, or industrial field-labor environments
- Proven ability to build HR programs, recruiting pipelines, or operational frameworks with minimal direct guidance
- Track record of successfully hiring, onboarding, and retaining industrial and skilled field labor
- Proactive, hands‑on "doer" mindset, with comfort in both execution and administrative work alongside strategic oversight
- Strong business acumen, including managing contract administration, partnering with executive leadership, and handling sensitive information professionally
- Familiarity with integrated payroll/timekeeping platforms; UKG or similar PEO platform experience is a plus
- Based in Baton Rouge, LA with willingness to travel occasionally as operational needs require
