Job Summary:
The Human Resources / Safety Manager leads and directs the routine functions of the HR department. This includes hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and enforcing company policies and practices. The HR Manager plays a critical role in cultivating a positive workplace culture and aligning HR initiatives with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
- Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance with Federal and State guidelines
- Manage the recruitment and selection process to attract, hire, and retain top talent. Recruits, interviews, pre-qualifies and selects employees to fill vacant positions
- Process new employee onboarding and conduct new hire orientation
- Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and retention of human capital
- Administer compensation and benefits programs. Coordinates and assists in negotiating employee benefits plans
- Keeps records of benefit plans participation such as insurance and pension plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews and terminations
- Process bi-weekly payroll (HRIS-Auris). Oversees the Payroll system consisting of payroll operations, Hiring, and Time & Attendance
- Maintain employee records according to policy and legal requirements
- Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance reviews, and safety
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policies
- Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events
- Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs
- Maintain PTO policies such as vacation and FMLA
- Investigates accidents and prepares reports for worker’s compensation insurance carrier
- Follows through with insurance carrier and doctor’s visits and employee issues until Workers’ Compensation case is closed
- Maintains OSHA 300 logs and reporting. Prepares and keeps OSHA records and postings to follow Federal laws
- Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations
- Coordinates employee recognition program: awards, anniversary dates, celebrations, etc
- Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
- Foster a positive working environment and promote the organization’s values
- Interpret and translate written materials as needed
Safety
- Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety programs and procedures
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, serve as point of contact during audits and OSHA related site visits
- Conduct safety training, orientations, and ongoing employee education programs
- Perform routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments
- Coordinate emergency response procedures and safety drills
- Promote a strong safety culture through continuous improvement initiatives
- Work closely with supervisors and management to address safety concerns promptly
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Proven working experience as HR Manager or other HR Executive role
- People-oriented and results-driven
- Knowledge of HR systems and databases (e.g., HRIS, payroll software)
- Ability to architect strategy along with leadership skills
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices
- Professional certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus
