Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality advice and service to employees and resolve issues, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Administer leaves of absence, coordinate with vendor, maintain records, and manage ADA processes.
  • Coordinate hourly employment, new hire packet, orientation, and pre-employment processing (screening, references, I-9).
  • Maintain employee records in personnel files and systems.
  • Conduct onboarding meetings and organize training to aid retention.
  • Assist in developing and implementing personnel policies and procedures.
  • Back up HR supervisor as mediator and investigator when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal/state labor and discrimination laws.
  • Foster relationships across levels and promote open communication.
  • Assist in department goal setting and HR training sessions.
  • Maintain I-9 compliance and E-Verify processing.
  • Assist with benefits enrollment and annual open enrollments.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on employee relations, performance, attendance, and discipline.
  • Monitor employment authorizations and renewals, and inform management of issues.
  • Maintain organizational charts by department.
  • Collaborate on job descriptions and update as needed.
  • Audit processes and develop SOPs to improve efficiency.
  • Support wellness, recognition, and employee engagement programs.
  • Perform other HR duties as needed.

Human Resources Generalist (Springfield, OH)

Title: Human Resources Generalist


Salary Range: $67,000 - $70,000 Annually


Status: Exempt


Location: Springfield, OH


Reports to: HR Supervisor


GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:


Must be Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish and English.


The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with other members of the HR team supporting the hourly employees. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, labor relations, leaves of absence management, systems maintenance, training, goal setting/performance management, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION


  • Provide high-quality advice and service to employees and resolve any issues that may arise. Contribute to the development of culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion where employees experience is at the center of HR service delivery.

  • Accountable for administration, tracking and communication of leaves of absence, in conjunction with vendor, working closely with employees and managers. Maintain accurate records and reports of all leaves of absence. Lead and manage interactive process as needed for ADA cases.

  • Coordination of the hourly employment process and new hire packet and orientation administration, including pre-employment processing of applicants (screening, referencing, I-9 verification) and completion of written employment verification.

  • Maintain employee records and records in personnel files, ADPEV6 and other systems.

  • Conduct employee meetings to ensure smooth onboarding and retention. Help organize training & development initiatives to assist with retention.

  • Assist in development and implementation of personnel procedures and policies, providing guidance and interpretation to employees.

  • Will back up the HR supervisor as a mediator, counselor, and facilitator in settling disputes between employees and employees and their supervisors and managers, using care and judgment to ensure fairness and equity throughout the counseling process. Will manage first level investigations when required.

  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State labor and discrimination laws (e.g., Department of Labor, DFEH, wage and hour, ADA, etc.)

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with and between employees, supervisors, and managers. Maintain relationships with employees at all levels of the organization. Promote and foster an environment of open communication and honest, candid feedback.

  • Participate in developing department goals, objectives and systems needed to achieve goals.

  • Assists with preparation and presentation of HR training sessions for employees and supervisors on topics such as wage & hour laws, anti-harassment, and other company initiatives.

  • Maintain compliant I-9 forms and ensure E-Verify requests are completed in compliance with regulations.

  • Assist with benefits enrollment and conduct annual open enrollments meetings for all employees.

  • Provides coaching and guidance to front‑line leaders and employees on routine employee relations matters including employee development, performance feedback, attendance, and disciplinary actions.

  • Monitor employee compliance by tracking employment authorization document expiration dates, process notification letters to employees approaching expiration and advise management of issues as they arise.

  • Maintains organizational charts of all hourly employees by department.

  • Works with leaders in creating and updating job descriptions.

  • Audits internal processes and procedures to ensure compliance and develops SOPs to enhance processes.

  • Assists with the coordination of wellness, recognition, and employee engagement programs and events.

  • Assists with other Human Resources duties as needed or for back‑up.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES


  • 3+ years of human resources experience preferred

  • Working knowledge of Federal and state labor laws and ability to understand company policies and procedures

  • Excellent and responsive customer service focus

  • Strong attention to detail with ability to analyze data

  • Resourceful with a problem‑solving aptitude to resolve issues

  • Excellent time management, organizational skills, and ability to perform effectively in a fast‑faced environment.

  • High level of skill in handling sensitive and confidential situations/information with the demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work with employees at all levels of an organization

  • Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues, and to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with company standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, or government laws.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with MS Office with intermediate Excel skills

  • Bilingual/Bi-literate English/Spanish required


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) and/or up to 15 lbs.


WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS


  • Ability to work beyond regular business hours as business needs require.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION


  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, administration, communications, or related field preferred

  • PHR Certification highly desired
