Job summary

Mattos Hospitality is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support its Corporate Office team in New York, NY. This onsite role covers full-cycle payroll, benefits administration, HR operations and compliance, HRIS management, employee records, and employee relations across multiple restaurant locations.

You will collaborate with Operations and Finance to ensure timely payroll processing, regulatory compliance, accurate HR data, and effective vendor management, while upholding confidentiality

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, including payroll administration.
  • Hospitality industry experience required; multi-unit restaurant experience preferred.
  • Hands-on payroll processing with ADP Workforce Now required.
  • Experience administering benefits, leave programs, HR compliance, employee records, onboarding.
  • Knowledge of NY wage and hour laws; strong MS Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent communication and confidentiality; able to work independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle payroll across multiple locations using ADP Workforce Now.
  • Administer HRIS to maintain accurate employee records and data.
  • Administer benefits, enrollments, COBRA, and open enrollment.
  • Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Maintain I-9 documentation and HR records per legal requirements.
  • Administer leave programs including FMLA and Paid Family Leave.
  • Serve as primary HR resource for managers and employees on payroll, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure employment law compliance and HR reporting.
  • Support employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
  • Prepare HR documentation and verify verifications and background checks.
  • Audit payroll, benefits, HRIS, and personnel records for data integrity.
  • Produce HR and payroll reports for leadership.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Finance, and vendors on payroll and benefits.
  • Assist compensation reviews, bonus administration, and benefits renewals.
  • Identify HR process improvements and enhance the employee experience.
  • Perform additional HR and payroll duties as needed.

Job description

Mattos Hospitality is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support its Corporate Office team in New York, NY. This onsite role spans full-cycle payroll, benefits administration, HR operations and compliance, HRIS management, employee records, and employee relations across multiple restaurant locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage full-cycle payroll across multiple restaurant locations, ensuring timely and accurate processing through ADP Workforce Now and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
  • Maintain and administer the HRIS to keep employee records, organizational data, reporting, and system information accurate and up to date.
  • Administer employee benefits, including new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, annual open enrollment, COBRA administration, and ongoing communication with employees and benefit providers.
  • Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding to support a seamless, organized, and compliant experience.
  • Maintain personnel files and HR records, including I-9 documentation, and ensure employment-related records are stored according to company standards and legal requirements.
  • Administer leave programs including FMLA, Paid Family Leave, ADA accommodations, workers’ compensation, and other applicable federal, state, and local leave regulations.
  • Serve as a primary HR resource for managers and employees regarding payroll, benefits, leave administration, company policies, and HR procedures.
  • Ensure employment law compliance by maintaining required HR documentation, postings, and reporting requirements.
  • Support employee relations by assisting with investigations, documentation, performance management, corrective actions, and policy interpretation.
  • Prepare employment documentation, including letters, compensation changes, promotions, and other HR status updates.
  • Coordinate employment verifications, background checks, onboarding documentation, and compliance-related processes.
  • Audit payroll, benefits, HRIS, and personnel records to support data integrity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Prepare HR reports, payroll reports, and workforce metrics for leadership as needed.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and external vendors to support accurate payroll processing, benefits administration, and HR reporting.
  • Support compensation reviews, bonus administration, benefits renewals, annual compliance initiatives, and other Human Resources projects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, payroll procedures, and operational efficiencies while enhancing the employee experience.
  • Perform additional Human Resources and payroll responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, including payroll administration.
  • Human Resources experience within the hospitality industry is required; multi-unit restaurant experience is strongly preferred.
  • Hands‑on payroll processing experience using ADP Workforce Now is required.
  • Experience administering employee benefits, leave programs, HR compliance, employee records, onboarding, and payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, New York State, and New York City employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and HR best practices.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Professionalism and discretion, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Self‑motivated approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Genuine passion for hospitality and supporting people.
Preferred Skills & Technologies
  • Experience working with Harri HRIS is preferred; experience with comparable HRIS systems will also be considered.
Compensation

USD 80,000 - 82,000 per year.
