Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for hourly positions and coordinate interviews.
  • Facilitate onboarding and ensure completion of new hire documentation.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for hourly team member questions and concerns; support coaching and performance discussions.
  • Ensure HR compliance, maintain records, and assist with audits and HR reports.
  • Assist benefits enrollment, open enrollment, and leave requests; liaise with providers.
  • Support performance evaluation processes and training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Production, Warehouse, Transportation, QA, Maintenance and Operations on staffing.
  • Promote a culture of safety; assist with OSHA reporting and incident investigations.

About this position

Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the organization's workforce by managing recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, compliance and HR operations. This role serves as a trusted resource for employees and managers while supporting business objectives through effective talent acquisition, employee engagement, and HR program administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment & Talent Acquisition: Manage full-cycle recruitment for hourly positions. Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies. Post job openings, source candidates, screen applications, and conduct interviews. Coordinate interview scheduling and candidate communications. Conduct background screenings, and pre-employment processes. Manage relationships with job boards, schools, and community organizations. Participate in job fairs, hiring events, and workforce development initiatives. Monitor recruiting metrics including time-to-fill, applicant flow, and hiring effectiveness.
  • Onboarding & Team Member Experience: Facilitate new hire onboarding and orientation programs. Ensure completion and compliance of all new hire documentation. Assist employees with onboarding questions and integration into the organization. Maintain employee records. Support employee recognition and engagement initiatives.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for hourly team member questions and concerns. Assist managers with employee coaching, counseling, and performance discussions. Support investigations related to employee complaints, conflicts, and workplace concerns. Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee matters. Promote a positive workplace culture and employee engagement.
  • HR Compliance & Administration: Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and company policies. Maintain accurate HR records and HRIS data. Assist with hourly unemployment claims, employment verifications, and audits. Support policy implementation and employee handbook administration. Prepare HR reports and workforce data as requested.
  • Benefits & Leave Administration: Support as back up to Benefits & Payroll Specialist and assist employees with benefits enrollment and benefits-related questions. Support annual open enrollment activities. Assist team members with FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other protected leaves and requests. Serve as a liaison between employees and benefit providers when necessary.
  • Performance Management & Training: Support performance evaluation processes. Coordinate training programs and compliance training requirements. Track employee certifications, licenses, and required training documentation Assist with hourly employee development and succession planning initiatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production, Warehouse, Transportation, QA, Maintenance, and Operations leaders. Support workforce planning and staffing strategies to meet operational needs. Assist with HR initiatives that improve retention, engagement, and workforce effectiveness to include exit and stay interviews.
  • Safety & Occupational Health Support: Promote and support a culture of workplace safety throughout the organization. Partner with Operations and Safety leadership to reinforce safe work practices, policies, and procedures. Assist with workplace injury reporting, workers' compensation administration, and return-to-work processes. Maintain required safety-related documentation and employee records. Support safety training initiatives, employee communications, and compliance programs. Participate in incident investigations and corrective action follow-up as appropriate. Monitor trends related to attendance, injuries, and employee concerns to identify opportunities for improvement. Assist with OSHA-related documentation and reporting requirements as directed
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution or food production environments.

Skills:

  • Bilingual in Spanish is required.
  • Experience in recruiting and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems. Previous experience with PayChex a plus.
Preferred Attributes
  • Professional HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR).
  • Experience managing employees subject to DOT regulations.
  • Experience supporting hourly workforces and shift-based operations.
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems (ATS).
  • Experience managing Benefit programs.
Work Environment
  • This role operates in a fast-paced production environment, requiring frequent interaction with production managers, HR teams, candidates and employees.
  • This role operates with a mix of office-based work (sourcing, interviewing, administrative tasks) and on-site presence in production facilities to understand job requirements and build relationships.
  • The position may involve walking through production areas, exposure to moderate noise levels, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Standard business hours apply, but occasional flexibility may be needed.
  • Ability to travel to secondary facility on frequent basis.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based tasks.
  • Occasional walking and standing during facility tours, candidate escorts, and meetings with production staff.
  • Must be able to navigate production areas, which may involve climbing stairs, walking on concrete floors, and wearing required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, rubber shoes).
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in environments with moderate noise levels and temperature variations when visiting production areas.
