Job summary

Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY

CarParts.com is looking for a detail-oriented and people-first HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team in Long Beach. This role serves as a hands-on partner to employees and leaders across all departments, supporting the full employee lifecycle - from onboarding through engagement and day-to-day HR operations. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, a collaborative spirit, and genuine enthusiasm for building a great workplace culture. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate and facilitate new hire onboarding, including orientation scheduling, offer documentation, and systems setup.
• Partner with hiring managers to ensure a seamless and welcoming Day 1 experience for all incoming employees.
• Maintain and continuously improve onboarding materials, checklists, and workflows.

Employee Engagement & Culture

• Support the design and execution of employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and culture-building activities.
• Serve as a visible, approachable resource for employees across all levels of the organization.
• Serve as a backup resource for general office and facilities needs, including supply restocking, mail handling, and other day-to-day operational tasks as needed.

HR Programs & Projects

• Support the rollout of HR programs across the employee lifecycle, including performance management, learning & development, and benefits open enrollment.
• Partner cross-functionally with teams in Operations, Finance, Technology, Marketing, and other departments to ensure HR programs meet business needs.
• Contribute to the development and communication of HR policies, procedures, and training materials.
• Leverage AI tools and HR technology to streamline administrative workflows, improve the employee experience, and free up capacity for higher-impact HR work.

HR Administration & Compliance

• Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS and ensure data integrity across all HR systems.
• Process employment changes (promotions, transfers, terminations) and ensure proper documentation.
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including California-specific labor requirements.
• Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, and general HR matters in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist with HR reporting, audits, and ad hoc projects as needed.
• Support CHRO, VP, and Director of HR with various administrative duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field - required.
• Master's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field - preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an HR Generalist, HR Coordinator, or related HR role.
• Exposure to full-cycle HR functions including onboarding, employee relations, benefits, and compliance.
• Experience working in a multi-department or cross-functional environment strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills - comfortable engaging with employees at all levels.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment - able to manage competing priorities, take initiative, and drive tasks to completion with minimal direction.
• High degree of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail, especially in managing employee records and documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with an HRIS platform a plus.
• Curiosity about and willingness to adopt AI tools, automation, and emerging HR technology to work smarter and scale HR operations.
• Knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance best practices preferred.
• Professional discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• PHR, SHRM-CP, or related certification a plus - not required.

A reasonable salary estimate for this role based on education, experience, and geographic location is: $60,000-$75,000
