Position Overview
The HR Generalist supports day-to-day human resources operations including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, benefits administration, HR record management, and general administrative support. This role serves as a key point of contact for employees and managers while helping ensure HR policies and procedures are consistently applied. The position also supports office coordination and administrative needs across departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Recruitment & Talent Acquisition
- Coordinate job postings, candidate screening, interview scheduling, and candidate communication.
- Support hiring managers throughout the recruiting process and maintain applicant tracking records.
- Assist with job descriptions and recruiting activities that support company growth.
2. Onboarding & Employee Lifecycle Management
- Coordinate new hire onboarding, orientation, documentation, and system setup.
- Maintain personnel files and process employee changes including promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Ensure completion of required employment documentation and support offboarding activities.
3. Employee Relations & HR Support
- Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR policies, procedures, and workplace concerns.
- Support employee relations matters, performance documentation, coaching, engagement, and communication initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive employee matters.
4. Benefits & Payroll Coordination
- Support benefits enrollment, changes, employee questions, and benefits communication.
- Assist with payroll coordination, employee data updates, and timekeeping verification.
- Maintain accurate benefits, compensation, and employee records and coordinate with external providers and internal teams.
5. HR Compliance, Data & Reporting
- Support compliance with employment laws, company policies, audits, required documentation, training, and certifications.
- Maintain HR systems and employee data and generate reports related to staffing, turnover, training, and workforce metrics.
- Support HR analytics, workforce planning, and consistent application of company policies.
6. Continuous Improvement & Team Support
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee experience, and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with leadership and department managers on workforce planning, culture, engagement, and organizational development.
7. Administrative & Office Coordination
- Provide administrative assistance across departments as business needs arise.
- Coordinate office supply and coffee supply ordering, inventory tracking, and restocking to maintain appropriate supply levels.
- Support general office organization, shared workspaces, and coordination with office-related vendors.
- Travel approximately 20% to the Dane location, generally every other Monday opposite the HR Manager travel schedule, with additional travel as business needs require.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in human resources, HR administration, or a related role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Experience working in a unionized environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of HR practices including recruiting, employee relations, benefits administration, and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); Paylocity experience is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information, multiple priorities, and travel between MPD locations as required.
