About the Position

The Human Resources Director-Major Projects serves as an enterprise leader providing strategic HR partnership and support across ArchKey Solutions' Major Projects and National Business operations. This role partners with operational leaders to support workforce planning, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, and people-related business needs across regions and specialty operations supporting these large-scale engagements, drawing on a deep understanding of labor relations to navigate unionized environments effectively. The role mitigates labor and employee relations risk, ensures consistent application of collective bargaining agreements (CBAs), and supports workforce strategies that align with business objectives.

The Director operates within ArchKey's matrix structure, partnering closely with Operations, Legal, and Human Resources leadership to resolve complex labor and employee relations matters, provide strategic guidance to leaders, support talent and organizational initiatives, and drive consistency in labor and HR practices. This role requires the ability to exercise sound judgment, influence outcomes without direct authority, and balance legal compliance, operational needs, and ArchKey's people strategy in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives, and regulations.

Day in the Life
  • Interprets, applies, and ensures compliance with Local and National Collective Bargaining Agreements across multiple jurisdictions, operating companies, and project environments.
  • Provides strategic and practical guidance to field and office leaders on union referral systems, jurisdictional rules, work classifications, and labor agreement obligations.
  • Serves as an enterprise subject matter expert and escalation point for complex, high-risk labor issues.
  • Partners with Operations and Legal leadership to proactively address labor risks and support workforce planning.
  • Provides strategic human resources consultation and guidance to senior operational leaders regarding workforce planning, organizational changes, talent risks, and people-related business challenges.
  • Partners with Operations and Human Resources leadership to address workforce and organizational challenges, support business objectives, and promote consistent people practices across Major Projects and National Business operations.
  • Leads or oversees investigations related to grievances, labor disputes, and employee complaints.
  • Manages grievance resolution processes, including preparation and participation in hearings or arbitration.
  • Ensures all labor and employee relations matters are documented in a consistent and legally defensible manner.
  • Provides enterprise-level employee relations support for complex matters involving performance and conduct.
  • Conducts or reviews workplace investigations and ensures timely communication of findings.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to field and project leadership.
  • Partners with business and HR leaders to support talent management, succession planning, leadership development, and workforce planning initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Partners with HR and Operations leadership to develop and implement workforce engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness strategies that support operational performance and workforce stability.
  • Analyzes workforce, labor relations, and employee relations trends and recommends solutions that improve employee experience, workforce stability, and business performance.
  • Ensures alignment between policies, agreements, and employment laws.
  • Provides strategic guidance regarding policy interpretation and application to ensure consistency, compliance, and effective business outcomes across regions and operations.
  • Drives continuous improvement of labor relations, employee relations, and human resources practices to support organizational effectiveness and operational excellence.
  • Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
  • Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.
  • Promotes and models the Company mission, vision and values through exercising sound and ethical business practices, championing all elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and providing high quality services and programs as they relate to clients, subcontractors, co-workers, suppliers, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Labor Relations, Business, or a related field required. Masters degree preferred. SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), HCI Professional in HR (PHR) or Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) credential is preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including significant experience in labor relations, employee relations, and leadership consultation.
  • 5+ years of HR leadership experience supporting complex, unionized, and/or project-based business environments.
  • Experience in large-scale construction or industrial services preferred.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in human resource management across all HR disciplines, including staffing, talent management, leader and employee development, compensation, benefits, organizational design, development, and effectiveness, change management, engagement, employee relations, diversity, performance management, labor relations and training.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic HR consultation, influence senior leaders, and drive outcomes within a matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge of IBEW and collective bargaining frameworks.
  • Advanced knowledge of labor relations and employment law.
  • Strong judgment in managing high-risk, sensitive matters.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and drive consistency within a matrixed organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and sound ethical judgment.
Travel
  • Occasional travel may be required.
