Combined Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirements equivalent to the GS-4 level grade. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year if equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
To be eligible at the GS-6 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service as defined below. Specialized experience is defined as experience reviewing HR documents for completeness and obtaining additional information as required; researching, identifying, and providing technical assistance to team members on a variety of employee benefits issues such as advising eligible employees on health benefits, life insurance, retirement coverage and annual and sick leave; processing and reviewing personnel actions and resolving data entry problems.
To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 level in Federal service as defined below. Specialized experience is defined as experience using appropriate regulations and guidelines to determine the correct legal and regulatory human resources codes for personnel actions; explaining basic federal employment policies and procedures to applicants and employees; process personnel actions and reviewing personnel actions or forms for accuracy; requesting employment history information from previous employers.
