In this role, you will serve as the working technical payroll resource for the DNR Payroll Team, ensuring that employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with state and federal law, Personnel Rules, and multiple collective bargaining agreements. This position is located at 400 Willoughby Avenue with dedicated employee parking, where you will work as part of DNR's HR team under the direct supervision of the DNR Payroll Supervisor. The work is deadline-driven and technically demanding— with seasonal surges that require reliability, advance planning, and composure under pressure—and calls for consistent professionalism in every interaction with employees, managers, union representatives, and statewide partners. You can expect:
One year of journey technical level human resource experience. This is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Substitution:
One year of technical level dispatching experience as an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
OR
Two years of postsecondary education (64 semester hours or 96 quarter hours equal 2 years) from an accredited college or university in any field.
OR
Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and human resources experience at the journey technical level. This experience is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and technical level dispatching experience. This experience is equivalent to an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
