Job summary

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably within manufacturing/industrial settings.
  • Experience supporting hourly and/or operational employees.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Strong HR knowledge: recruitment, employee relations, performance management, talent development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day HR operations: onboarding, offboarding, records, benefits, employee relations.
  • Partner with managers and employees to provide guidance through the employee lifecycle.
  • Support engagement, retention, talent development, staffing, and performance management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to align HR priorities with business objectives.
  • Assist with recruitment and development of talent pipelines for production and supervisory roles.
  • Advise leaders during organizational changes and coach on communication and leadership.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced HR Generalist for a contract opportunity supporting the human resources function at a busy operational facility in Hutchinson, KS. This position is expected to start in late October or early November.

The successful candidate will provide hands‑on HR support across day‑to‑day operations while partnering with site leadership and employees to support a positive, productive workplace.

This position will work closely with site leadership and employees to support HR programs, employee engagement, talent development, recruitment, performance management, and employee relations.

The successful candidate will be a hands‑on HR professional who can build strong relationships, provide practical guidance to leaders, and help implement HR initiatives that support both employees and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Support day‑to‑day HR operations, including onboarding, offboarding, employee records, benefits administration, and employee relations.

Partner with managers and employees to provide guidance and coaching throughout the employee lifecycle.

Support initiatives related to employee engagement, talent development, retention, staffing, performance management, and organizational development.

Partner with site leadership to ensure HR priorities align with operational and business objectives.

Support recruitment activities and develop effective talent pipelines for production, skilled trades, technical, and supervisory positions.

Provide guidance and support to leaders during organizational and workplace changes.

Coach managers on effective communication, leadership practices, employee engagement, and team development.

Support managers with annual HR processes, performance management, and other people‑related programs.

Assist with employee and labor relations matters, including meetings, investigations, grievance handling, and interpretation and administration of workplace agreements.

Help ensure compliance with applicable employment legislation, company policies, and internal procedures.

Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.

Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, employee experience, and organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

3+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or other fast‑paced operational environment.

Experience supporting hourly and/or operational employees.

Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees and leaders at all levels.
