Job summary

Mid-Plains Center For Behavioral Healthcare Services Inc is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to serve as the sole HR professional. You will manage full-cycle HR, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits, and payroll coordination with the payroll specialist, while upholding confidentiality and a mission-driven workplace.

You will partner with leadership to implement policies, ensure Nebraska and federal compliance, and support staff development.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible HR experience.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and Nebraska state employment laws.
  • Experience managing recruitment, benefits, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with various computer platforms and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment & staffing: develop postings, screen applicants, schedule interviews and reference checks.
  • Onboarding & training: facilitate new hire orientation and staff development.
  • Employee relations: guidance to managers/employees on workplace concerns and performance.
  • Compliance & risk management: monitor labor law changes and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Benefits administration: manage open enrollment and vendor coordination.
  • Policy development: draft and update HR policies and procedures.
  • HR systems & records: maintain files and generate reports.
  • Organizational culture: support initiatives for engagement and retention.

Job Title: Human Resource GeneralistReports to: President / CEOJob Purpose: The Human Resources (HR) Generalist will serve as the sole HR professional for the organization, providing full-cycle human resources support. This position will manage all aspects of HR including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, compliance, benefits, payroll coordination with payroll specialist, training support, and policy administration. The HR Specialist will play a key role in fostering a positive, compliant, and supportive workplace aligned with the organization’s mission to strengthen and support the wellness and recovery of our communities.Essential Job DutiesAdminister and oversee all HR functions for the organization as the primary HR point of contact.Provides independent recommendations to executive leadership regarding employment matters, policy implementation, risk management, and organizational compliance.Ensure compliance with federal, state (Nebraska), and local employment laws and regulations.Manage the employee lifecycle including recruitment, coordinating drug screenings, background checks, onboarding, training monitoring, performance management, and offboarding.Coordinate benefits administration including health insurance, retirement plans, FMLA, workers’ compensation, and other employee benefits.Partner with leadership to address employee relations issues, acting at all times with fairness, professionalism, and confidentiality.Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook to reflect best practices and compliance.Serve as the liaison between staff and leadership regarding HR-related inquiries and concerns.Oversee human resources and personnel records with strict attention to confidentiality and accuracy.Coordinate with the Payroll Specialist to ensure timely and accurate processing of employee status changes, benefit deductions, and other HR-related payroll information.Promote a culture of trust, accountability, and employee engagement consistent with the organization’s values.Main Job Tasks and ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Staffing: Develop job postings, screen applicants, schedule interviews, conduct reference checks, and assist managers with employee selection.Onboarding & Training: Facilitate new hire orientation, and support staff development opportunities.Employee Relations: Provide guidance to managers and employees on workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and performance improvement.Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor labor law changes, ensure compliance with EEO, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.Benefits Administration: Manage annual open enrollment, resolve employee benefits issues, and collaborate with vendors.Policy Development: Draft, update, and implement HR policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and legal requirements.HR Systems & Records: Maintain accurate personnel files, ensure proper documentation, and generate HR-related reports as needed.Organizational Culture: Support initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, and workplace satisfaction.QualificationsRequired:3+ years of progressively responsible HR experience.Strong knowledge of federal and Nebraska state employment laws.Experience managing recruitment, employee relations, benefits, and compliance.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Proficiency with various computer platforms and systems.Preferred:HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP).Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.Experience working in nonprofit or behavioral health settings.Success FactorsDemonstrates high integrity, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.Builds trust and credibility with staff and leadership at all levels.Proactively identifies HR challenges and implements practical, legally sound solutions.Balances organizational compliance needs with a compassionate, employee-centered approach.Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with leadership and staff.Demonstrates alignment with the mission, vision, and values Mid-Plains Center.
