Exponent Inc. in Chicago, IL is seeking a Human Factors Scientist to join our Human Factors Practice for a late 2026/early 2027 start.

You will apply knowledge of perception, attention, memory, decision making, learning, and performance to safety-critical domains such as vehicles, consumer products, and industrial operations. You will lead studies, prepare written reports for technical and non-technical audiences, manage multi-disciplinary projects, review technical data and standards, and help

Qualifications

• Holding a Ph.D. in a related field as listed.
• Robust publication record in cognition, decision-making, learning, or performance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, time management and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, and data analysis.
• Experience with R, MATLAB, or Python a plus.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States; Chicago area relocation is expected.

Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and technical guidance on accidents in safety-critical domains.
• Prepare reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Manage multi-disciplinary projects with internal and external stakeholders.
• Conduct literature reviews and identify standards for projects.
• Participate in design and evaluation of warnings and safety information.
• Develop and maintain client contacts.
