Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, MD seeks a Human Factors Engineer to help design and operationalize advanced human-machine systems for national needs. You will contribute to multidisciplinary teams across health, cyberspace, and defense domains, integrating cognitive engineering, AI/ML, and data-driven methods.

You will apply UCD/UX/UI to prototype solutions, analyze workload and task design, and collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into usable, safe

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Factors Engineering, Human Systems Integration, or Computer Science.
  • Experience with requirements analysis, experimental design, and system evaluation.
  • Experience with UCD, UX, and UI design.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; can work independently and in a team.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to meetings with government sponsors.
  • Eligible for Interim Secret clearance and ultimately Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and analysts to conduct research and develop systems.
  • Analyze human system design, requirements, task redesign, and workload modeling.
  • Apply UCD/UX/UI to rapidly develop prototypes.
  • Capture requirements, stakeholder input, and test results for complex systems.
  • Support documentation and presentation of human factors artifacts.
