Job summary

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, seeks a part-time Performing Arts Instructor (Hula) to teach students of all ages in the performing arts.

Responsibilities include delivering engaging hula classes, preparing lesson plans, and supporting end-of-session performances. Candidates should have dance or theater experience and strong classroom management skills, along with excellent communication abilities.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Two years dance and/or theater experience.
• Demonstrated classroom management skills.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group instruction to students of all ages with varying artistic abilities; adjust class outlines and teaching approach to ensure student development.
• Provide necessary lesson plans for everyone, group or program to Creative Arts & Education Manager at least two weeks before class begins.
• Display interest, dedication, and enthusiasm for improving the community through visual and performing arts education.
• Evaluate each student’s growth, performance, and understanding; provide corrective and positive feedback.
• Prepare individuals and groups for participation in end-of-session events and special performances.
• Teach all scheduled classes for everyone, group or program, beginning and ending on time.
• Improve and cultivate the performing arts skills of individuals and groups for recitals and performances.
• Be present for and assist during end-of-session events and performances.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures.
• Organize storage areas and control use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
• Prep and clean up rooms used for classes.
• Answer questions and interact with students, parents, volunteers and staff with positive attitude.
• Greet, introduce and welcome participants; acquaint new students with class procedures.
• Maintain regular and punctual work attendance.
• Communicate schedules and policies with colleagues and families.
• Follow Salvation Army policies and code of ethics for Kroc Hawaii.
• Attend staff meetings as required and perform other duties as assigned.
