Job summary

Kettering Health Dayton is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) to support the patient care team on a 12-hour night shift. This role blends unit coordination with direct patient care under licensed nurse guidance and relies on accurate documentation in the EMR.

Ideal candidates will have KH Health Coordinator training, Nursing Assistant orientation, CPR/BLS certification, and relevant experience or current student status, with strong communication and multitasking skills

Qualifications

• KH Health Coordinator training completed on hire into role.
• KH Nursing Assistant Orientation completed on hire into role.
• CPR/BLS certification required.
• One of: six months experience as nursing assistant or recent nursing assistant course, nursing student, or current KH employee.

Responsibilities

• The HUC NA combines Health Unit Coordinator and Nursing Assistant duties on the patient care team.
• Supports patients with daily living activities and nursing-delegated care.
• Coordinates day-to-day unit activities and maintains patient records; communicates with staff and physicians.
• Serves as EMR resource for physicians and health care team.
• Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager and supports department operations.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Responsibilities

• The Health Unit Coordinator/Nursing Assistant (HUC NA) has a dual focus, a combination of the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) and Nursing Assistant (NA) roles. They serve as a member of the interdisciplinary patient care team.

• The HUC NA supports patients with activities of daily living and performs patient care skills as delegated by the licensed nurse within the Ohio Board of Nursing Scope of Practice.

• The HUC NA also collaborates with unit leadership in coordinating the day-to-day activities of the patient care unit. This includes the processing of patient records and ongoing communication with nursing staff, physicians, and interdepartmental personnel. The HUC NA serves as a resource for physicians and other members of the health care team for the electronic medical record.

• The HUC NA is responsible for maintaining and demonstrating knowledge, skill, and ability of the delegated tasks. The HUC NA also supports department operational needs, and performs other duties as assigned.

• The HUC NA reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

Applicants Must Have:

• Successful completion of KH Health Coordinator training upon hire into role
• Successful completion of KH Nursing Assistant Orientation upon hire into roleli>
• Certification in CPR/BLS
• Must have one of the following:
  • Six months experience as a nursing assistant in a hospital or a long-term care facility
  • Completion of Nursing Assistant course in the last six months
  • Nursing student or listed as pre-nursing as shown on transcripts
  • Current employee with Kettering Health
