Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Minnesota is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support staff in coordinating intra- and inter-departmental activities and patient-related tasks under RN supervision.

The incumbent will process orders, coordinate admissions/transfers/discharges, manage supplies, and maintain efficient department workflow in a high-stress environment, ensuring professional service to all customers.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with standard office software.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Process physician orders and coordinate with staff.
• Communicate unit/department activities to staff.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and scheduling.
• Restock and order supplies for the unit.
• Complete clerical duties as assigned.
• Provide support to management staff as needed.
• Coordinate patient care across departments within CICU/Telemetry.
• Deliver professional customer service to internal and external customers.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for assisting staff in the coordination of intra- and inter-departmental activities and communication. Assists with patient-related activities under the supervision of the RN.

Job Functions

• Processes physician orders.
• Communicates pertinent information regarding unit/department activities to appropriate staff.
• Processes admissions, transfers, discharges and schedules appointments.
• Restocks and orders supplies for unit/area.
• Completes assigned clerical responsibilities.
• Performs support functions for management staff as required.
• Maintains the flow of the department by coordinating care of the patient between other departments.
• Demonstrates competencies in the specialty area of CICU/Telemetry.
• Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Strong communication and listening skills
• Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
• Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
• Knowledge of basic computer functions
• Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
• Ability to work autonomously and as a team
• Capable of making independent decisions with the use of good critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ability to work and multi-task in a high stress and fast paced environment

License/Certification

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross within 30 days from hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of Health Unit Coordinator course
• Previous HUC experience
• Experience in hospital setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
