Job summary

APM Terminals Pier 400 in Los Angeles is seeking a Safety Shift Manager to lead HSSE risk identification, incident response, and safety compliance on site. You will supervise contractors, coordinate security staff, and drive Lean-based process improvements in a high-volume terminal environment.

The ideal candidate has a STEM-focused Bachelor's degree and 0–3 years HSSE experience, with strong data analysis and communication skills.

Ability to analyze safety data and trends.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

Exercise independent judgment to recognize and identify HSSE risk, and communicate and act on issues within your scope of authority.
Address HSSE risks that arise during the shift and follow up through to completion of mitigations.
Respond to incidents and HSSE concerns.
Approve and stay engaged with HSSE processes such as risk assessment, permit to work, and management of change.
Write HSSE reports based on available data and conditions.
Use Lean methodologies to improve processes.
Enter HSSE data into corporate databases and Microsoft suite programs.
Perform site inspections and gemba walks under general direction using pre-determined criteria.
Ensure HSSE follows the APMT Way of Work and act as a facilitator for HSSE problem solving.
Coordinate HSSE vendors, and coordinate and direct security staff, as required.
