Job description

Job Description: Crisis Case Manager (Level 3)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933, IRC is one of the world's largest humanitarian NGOs, working in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. We aim to deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions.

The IRC's Home Study and Post-Release Services (HSPRS) for unaccompanied children in the U.S. operate across more than 17 offices nationwide. This is a multi-million-dollar project with ambitious goals, part of a 36-month contract ending on September 30, 2026.

Program Goals
  1. Assess the safety and suitability of sponsors before unaccompanied children are released from custody (Home Study).
  2. Provide case management support via remote and in-home visits to ensure children's safety and stability, linking them to community resources (Post Release Services).
Role Overview

The Crisis Case Manager (Level 3) conducts Home Studies and provides intensive post-release services, focusing on children with specific challenges. Responsibilities include developing service plans, conducting assessments, and utilizing trauma-informed interventions tailored to individual needs.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform initial in-home assessments and weekly contacts for 45-60 days, transitioning to remote services with monthly visits as needs stabilize.
  • Develop individualized, trauma-informed service plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and home visits, documenting findings within 10 days.
  • Continuously assess behavioral and environmental changes impacting child safety and wellbeing.
  • Provide crisis intervention and coordinate with child protective services and law enforcement when necessary.
  • Lead or support cases involving safety concerns, including suicidal attempts or trafficking issues.
  • Refer clients to legal, medical, educational, and social services, among others.
  • Document all interactions and maintain accurate case records.
  • Build relationships with community service providers.
  • Ensure confidentiality and adhere to trauma-informed, child-centered approaches.
Job Requirements
  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or relevant field.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and verbal.
  • At least two years of case management experience, including assessments and service planning.
  • Experience with children, family reunification, or child protection work.
  • Knowledge of local social services and experience working with immigrant populations, especially unaccompanied minors, is preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 80%, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom, and similar platforms.
  • Clearance and background checks required, including FBI fingerprints and child abuse checks.
Working Environment

This role involves in-person case management, with a hybrid schedule if based in an office, or remote work with in-person visits if part of the Roving team. A private workspace is required if working remotely.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive pay ranges based on location, experience, and skills. Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, retirement plans, disability and life insurance, and mental health support.

Equal Opportunity

IRC is an equal opportunity employer, considering all applicants on merit without discrimination.

Professional Conduct

All staff must adhere to the IRC Way - our Code of Conduct, emphasizing integrity, service, accountability, and equality.
