Job summary

PHI Aviation is seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to lead safety management efforts in Lafayette, LA. The role focuses on supporting operations through risk management, training, and auditing within PHI’s Safety Management System.

You will coordinate incident investigations, develop learning materials, and maintain HSE programs across bases. Travel up to 20% is required, with some evening work and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HSE experience is preferred. Aviation experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in HSEQ related field preferred.

  • Self-motivated with a bias for action to organize and manage priorities effectively.
  • Strong background in investigations, such as TapRoot, HFACS, etc. strongly desired.
  • High curiosity and ability to evaluate multiple viewpoints simultaneously.
  • Experience in training development and facilitation, as well as audit development and facilitation.
  • Strong technical writing capabilities for the enhancement of programs, plans and reports.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert of PHI’s Safety Management System and support risk identification and learning culture.
  • Support effective implementation of the Safety Management System during operations and oversight of subcontractors.
  • Monitor performance and communicate risk trends and safety opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings to inform, collaborate and support various stakeholders.
  • Lead incident and injury management processes and prepare educational materials based on learnings.
  • Develop and facilitate HSE training as needed and maintain HSE programs at base and PHI Americas levels.
  • Support the HSE auditing process and coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring and hazard assessments.
  • Assist with emergency drill coordination and maintenance of emergency plans.
  • Perform other duties to support team objectives.

Job description

The HSE Specialist will embody PHI’s core values of Safe, Efficient, Quality and Service and serve as a leader in the support of operations. The employee will assist in the ongoing evaluation of performance, implementation of controls and maintenance of a learning and just culture.

The position will be based out of Lafayette, LA. The work schedule will be primarily Monday through Friday, with some evening work. Occasional call outs on weekends or nights may be required. Regular travel to Houma, LA is required, some by team bus or helicopter. Travel to Galveston, TX is also required. Travel frequency is <20%.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Serve as a subject matter expert of PHI’s Safety Management System as a reliable resource to support personnel in the identification and management of risks in support of a learning and just culture.
  • Support personnel and management to ensure effective implementation of the Safety Management System during operations, aircraft maintenance, and oversight of subcontractors.
  • Monitor performance and communicate information regarding risk, identified trends, and safety assurance opportunities with stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings to inform, collaborate and support various stakeholders.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in Human Factors and support effective and timely learning processes following incidents with applicable leadership.
  • Provide leadership in the incident and injury management process, including the follow up on corrective actions and preparation of educational and promotional materials based on learnings.
  • Develop content and facilitate HSE training when needed.
  • Maintain various HSE programs and plans at the base and PHI Americas levels.
  • Support the HSE auditing process.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring and update applicable hazard assessments and controls, as needed.
  • Assist in the coordination of required emergency drills and maintenance of applicable emergency plans.
  • Other miscellaneous duties to support the overall efforts of the team.

  • College Degree Required, Bachelor’s Degree in HSEQ related field preferred .

  • Strong background in investigations, such as TapRoot, Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS), etc. strongly desired.
  • High curiosity and ability to effectively evaluate multiple, competing viewpoints simultaneously.
  • Previous experience in training development and facilitation, as well as audit development and facilitation required.
  • Strong technical writing capabilities for the enhancement of programs, plans and reports required.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
