Job summary

PHI Aviation, LLC is seeking an HSE Specialist in Lafayette, LA. This role involves leading the Safety Management System, supporting operations, and ensuring effective implementation of HSE programs. Job description

Position Overview

The HSE Specialist will embody PHI’s core values of Safe, Efficient, Quality and Service and serve as a leader in supporting operations. The employee will assist in the ongoing evaluation of performance, implementation of controls, and maintenance of a learning and just culture. The position is based in Lafayette, LA, with a schedule primarily Monday through Friday and occasional evening work. Weekend or night call‑outs may be required. Regular travel to Houma, LA (team bus or helicopter) and Galveston, TX is required and typically occurs less than 20% of the time.

Essential Duties & Accountabilities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert of PHI’s Safety Management System and support personnel in identifying and managing risks.
  • Support personnel and management to ensure effective implementation of the Safety Management System during operations, aircraft maintenance, and subcontractor oversight.
  • Monitor performance and communicate information regarding risk, identified trends, and safety assurance opportunities with stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings to inform, collaborate, and support various stakeholders.
  • Provide expertise in Human Factors and support effective, timely learning processes following incidents.
  • Lead the incident and injury management process, including follow‑up on corrective actions and preparation of educational and promotional materials.
  • Develop content and facilitate HSE training as needed.
  • Maintain various HSE programs and plans at the base and PHI Americas levels.
  • Support the HSE auditing process.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring and update applicable hazard assessments and controls.
  • Assist in the coordination of required emergency drills and maintenance of applicable emergency plans.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties to support the overall efforts of the team.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HSE experience (aviation experience is a plus).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an HSEQ related field (college degree required).
  • Positive, supportive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and a service‑focused mindset.
  • Self‑motivated with a bias for action, able to organize and manage priorities effectively in ambiguous, unstructured environments.
  • Strong background in investigations (e.g., TapRoot, Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS)).
  • Curiosity and ability to evaluate multiple, competing viewpoints simultaneously.
  • Previous experience in training development and facilitation, audit development and facilitation.
  • Strong technical writing capabilities for enhancing programs, plans, and reports.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
Physical Demands

The employee regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, and talking or hearing. Frequently requires standing and walking, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
