HSE Technician

This individual will serve as a key resource for safe work practices in a manufacturing facility specializing in solar components, including wiring harnesses, overmolded connectors, Load Break Disconnect (LBD) boxes, minor fabrication weldments, and packaging.

This individual will serve as a key resource for safe work practices in a manufacturing facility specializing in solar components, including wiring harnesses, overmolded connectors, Load Break Disconnect (LBD) boxes, minor fabrication weldments, and packaging.

The HSE Technician supports the Plant Safety Manager in driving the facility's Safety and Health processes to promote risk reduction, injury prevention, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Position responsibilities encompass the following functional areas: safety training and education, safety inspections, participation in the safety process, regulatory compliance, incident analysis, and response.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform accident & incident investigations and reporting as directed.
  • Helps to conduct New Employee Orientation safety training.
  • Facilitates and/or helps to facilitate compliance-based and job-specific safety training.
  • Responsible for conducting safety training, tracking, and record retention.
  • Assists in making safety “visible” in the workplace through various postings, safety messages, campaigns, and other strategies, including daily interaction with production and maintenance team members (80% of time on the manufacturing floor).
  • Participates in pre-shift safety meetings on a rotational basis in all departments.
  • Performs various inspections (hazard recognition) techniques related to general industry to continuously improve workplace conditions and behaviors, such as emergency exits, fire extinguishers, material handling and storage, machine guarding, PIT equipment operations, etc.
  • Helps to monitor compliance with pre-use inspection process (i.e., hoists, ladders, fall protection, PIT) and record retention.
  • Actively participates in safety audits and supports the corrective actions.
  • Inspects and maintains critical safety signage, including lockout/tagout, confined space, and container labeling.
  • Supports employee engagement teams for safety by actively participating and helping to lead teams where applicable.
  • Supports an effective rewards and recognition process to energize, engage, and empower employees for continued safety process improvements.
  • Participates in projects to eliminate or reduce safety and health risks in the facility.
  • Helps to maintain HAZMAT, Lone Worker, Confined Space Rescue, and other emergency response equipment
  • Supports site-specific emergency response plan and emergency response drills.
  • Participates in monthly safety council meetings and supports action items.
  • Assist with training on the safe use of equipment and PPE requirements.
  • Serve as a safety liaison for employee questions and concerns.
  • Ability to work weekends and night shift as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental health, or related field, and 3+ years of safety experience in a construction or manufacturing environment; OR 3+ years of safety leadership experience in a related industry without a degree.
  • OHST (Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technologist) from BCSP preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour.
  • OSHA 511.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Ability to recognize hazards and act accordingly.
  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards, particularly 29 CFR 1910.
  • Strong attention to detail when conducting safety assessments.
  • Ability to coach and support others in safety practices.
  • Must be physically capable of spending at least 80% of time on the shop floor and facility.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in front of large groups.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
