Job description

Who We Are:
Atlas Energy Solutions Inc. (NYSE: AESI) is a leading solutions provider to the energy industry. Atlas’ portfolio of offerings includes oilfield logistics, distributed power systems, and the largest proppant supply network in the Permian Basin. With a focus on leveraging technology, automation, and remote operations to enhance efficiencies, Atlas is centered around a core mission of improving human beings’ access to hydrocarbons that power our lives and, by doing so, maximizing value creation for our shareholders.

How You Will Make an Impact:

The Safety Specialist partners with the Safety Manager to drive the region toward Atlas health and safety objectives, working alongside operations leaders, safety personnel, and field employees to reduce the frequency and severity of personal injuries, motor vehicle incidents, property damage, and environmental releases. This is a hands-on, field-based role: conducting assessments and inspections, investigating incidents to root cause, delivering training, managing workers’ compensation cases, and verifying that corrective actions hold. The Safety Specialist ensures compliance with Atlas policy and applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and is a visible, credible safety presence for crews in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety and health assessments across regional sites, inspecting records, equipment, and facilities for compliance with regulatory requirements, Atlas standards, and recordkeeping obligations.
  • Identify loss exposures and evaluate risk, develop and implement corrective action plans, and audit their effectiveness over time.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance documentation and reporting under OSHA, MSHA, and DOT requirements as applicable to assigned operations.
  • Maintain customer safety qualification platforms such as Avetta, ISNetWorld, and Veriforce, keeping documentation current and accurate.

Incident Investigation & Performance Analysis

  • Lead and support incident investigations to determine root cause, and recommend preventive measures that address the underlying exposure.
  • Analyze incident reports, leading indicators, and performance statistics to recommend reduction goals and targeted risk strategies.
  • Track corrective actions through to closure and verify sustained effectiveness.
  • Manage and oversee workers’ compensation cases, ensuring proper documentation, reporting, follow-up, and return-to-work coordination.

Training & Field Engagement

  • Identify training needs, evaluate existing programs, and support the implementation of new training initiatives.
  • Contribute to site training plans, conduct employee orientations and emergency response training, and coordinate modular training programs supporting field activities.
  • Conduct field engagements, safety observations, and toolbox talks, coaching crews and supervisors on safe work practice.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to all levels of management, safety personnel, and employees on Atlas safety requirements and expectations.
  • Maintain working relationships with operations management, customers, vendors, educational institutions, professional organizations, and governmental agencies.
  • Present information in small or large group settings
  • Attend customer safety meetings and work with customer safety representatives to address concerns and align on standards.
  • Comply with all Atlas Energy Solutions policies, procedures, and work requirements, and report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of experience in an occupational health and safety role, such as HSE Coordinator, Safety Specialist, or similar
  • Experience supporting field operations in oilfield services, mining, construction, industrial, or comparable high-hazard environments
  • Working knowledge of applicable government laws, regulations, and reporting procedures, including OSHA, MSHA, and DOT
  • Working knowledge of incident investigation and loss control techniques, including root cause analysis
  • Experience developing or delivering safety training to field personnel
  • Experience with safety management software and recordkeeping systems
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to instruct and influence at all levels, from frontline crews to management
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities
  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel to regional sites and to respond to incidents outside of standard business hours
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; directly related experience may substitute for education
  • Professional safety certification such as OHST, CHST, ASP, or CSP, or progress toward one
  • Experience in completions and stimulation operations
  • Experience in construction and mining operations
  • Familiarity with customer safety qualification platforms such as Avetta, ISNetWorld, and Veriforce
  • Experience managing workers’ compensation cases and return-to-work programs
  • Supervisory or lead experience in a field operations environment

Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports To: Safety Manager
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • None

Work Location & Travel Requirements

  • Location: Midland (West Texas)
  • Work Environment: Field, Shop, Outdoors, and Office; active operating and construction sites with exposure to moving equipment, energized equipment, and variable weather conditions
  • Travel %: 75-80% – regular travel to regional sites expected

Schedule/Work Arrangement: Rotational (14 days on/7 days off) - field based, with flexibility to support field operations and incident response outside standard hours

Physical Demands:

  • Regular presence on active operating, construction, and field sites, including the ability to walk sites throughout the workday on uneven terrain
  • Required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs and ladders, including work at elevation

  • Must be able to travel by vehicle and air to regional sites
  • Must be able to tolerate conditions associated with field and outdoor environments, including heat, cold, dust, noise, and limited climate control

How You Will Stand Out

  • You are visible in the field, and crews talk to you because they trust you, not because they have to.
  • You investigate to root cause and are not satisfied by "employee error" as an answer.
  • You coach rather than police, and you can correct a behavior without losing the relationship.
  • You keep documentation and compliance records clean, because an audit should never be a fire drill.
  • You take pride in your work, ensuring accuracy and quality in every assessment, investigation, and report.
  • You communicate clearly with everyone from a new hire on their first day to a customer safety representative.
  • You handle personal and confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
