This position is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure the highest degree of safety for employees. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enjoys the challenges of daily involvement with an operation and maintenance team.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • This position is responsible for the Environmental, Health, and Safety at DMS Detroit, MI.
  • Coordinate the SDS (Right to Know) program.
  • Coordinate OHSAS (ISO 18001) and ISO 14001 compliance and certification programs.
  • Ensure legislative compliance with EPA, ADA, Fire Codes, and OSHA and serve as a liaison with area OSHA representatives.
  • Conduct routine workplace environment, health, and safety inspections and establish measurable standards from which further recommendations (continuous improvement) can be made, with effective follow-up.
  • Coordinate and provide safety training, emergency evacuation procedures, and practice drills including any necessary documentation for it and resulting from it.
  • Investigate and maintain records for all work-related injuries and/or illnesses according to company procedures, provide statistical analysis, and assist in the development of effective health and safety counter-measures to continuously improve environmental, health, and safety objectives.
  • Train new employees on health and safety processes specific to the facility.
  • Train employees in high voltage safety and electrical hazards.
  • Ensure that required training is completed.
  • Coordinate and participate in Samsung SDI Audits.
  • Lead the Safety Committee.
  • Coordinate and track action items.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and policies with a concentration on electrical safety.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by Manager.
  • Conforms, recognizes, and follows rules, procedures, and policies.
  • Land: Oversee spills management program, outside storage of materials, and landfill disposal management.
  • Water: Ensure all process water discharges leading to sanitary sewers are in compliance with regulations.
  • Hazardous Waste: Coordinate and manage hazardous waste program.
  • Waste: Coordinate recycling efforts of all recyclable scrap.

Required Skills/Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have/be:
    • Comfortable with working off-shift hours twice a week (e.g., 2-10 pm or 4-12 am)
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety or Safety.
    • 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety required.
    • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills as well as strong organizational skills.
    • Willingness and ability to build and maintain a “safety program”.
