Job summary

IREN in Sweetwater, TX is seeking a Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisor to champion safety and environmental protection across data center operations. This on-site role partners with all departments to ensure regulatory compliance, identify hazards, and reduce risk before issues arise.

With 100% renewable energy, we build and operate data centers, fostering a proactive safety culture through audits, training, and continuous improvement. Travel to regional sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or certification in HSE or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of HSE experience in construction, utilities, data centers, or industrial ops.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance.
  • Experience with HSE management systems (ISO 45001/ISO 14001).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration across all levels.
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment, and practical controls.
  • Understanding of permit-to-work and LOTO for high‑risk tasks.
  • Willingness to travel to regional data centers and sites.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and improve the HSE Management System aligned with business needs.
  • Promote proactive safety culture and drive improvements across a multi‑jurisdictional org.
  • Conduct HSE risk assessments, hazard evaluations, and inspections.
  • Perform audits of safety, environmental programs, and operations.
  • Analyze leading/lagging indicators to influence decisions.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Collaborate with Site HSE Manager to set annual objectives.
  • Support pre-task planning, JHAs, and high‑risk activities including LOTO.
  • Provide coaching and safety leadership via toolbox talks and training.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, drills, and plans.

We are seeking a highly motivated Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Advisorto champion the health, safety, and environmental protection of employees across our data center operations. This role plays a critical part in strengthening IREN’s safety culture by partnering with all departments to ensure regulatory compliance, identify and control workplace hazards, and proactively reduce risk before issues arise.

Job requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or recognized professional certification in Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of HSE experience in construction, utilities, electrical infrastructure, data centers, or industrial operations.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance principles, and industry best practices.
  • Track record of implementing or supporting structured HSE management systems (e.g., ISO 45001, ISO 14001, or equivalent).
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to coach, influence, and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated capability in hazard identification, risk assessment, and recommending practical, high-impact controls.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking ability, with a consultative and solutions-oriented approach.
  • Solid understanding of construction and electrical infrastructure activities, including permit-to-work, LOTO, and high-risk task management.
  • Ability to execute plans and hold teams accountable to defined performance outcomes.
  • Results-driven mindset with a sense of urgency and willingness to challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with software platforms for compliance tracking, incident management, training, and reporting.
  • Ability to travel periodically in support of IREN’s network of regional data centers and prospective U.S. sites.
Other important requirements
  • Pre-employment screening, including background check and substance testing may be required according to company policies.
  • Must provide own steel-toed work boots; other PPE will be supplied.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the work site daily or have plans to relocate before starting work.
  • Must be comfortable working a rotational schedule, which includes day and night shifts as well as weekend work, based on project needs.
  • Employees working night shifts will receive a 15% premium added to their hourly rate only for hours worked during night shifts.
Job responsibilities
  • Implement and continuously improve the HSE Management System, ensuring processes are practical, risk-based, and aligned with evolving business needs.
  • Promote a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture, driving continuous improvement across a fast-growing, multi-jurisdictional organization.
  • Conduct regular HSE risk assessments, hazard evaluations, and facility inspections to ensure safe work environments and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform routine audits of safety, environmental programs, and operational activities to verify compliance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and IREN policy.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of leading and lagging indicators, using data to influence decisions and drive measurable improvements.
  • Participate in incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action development; communicate learnings across all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Site HSE Manager to set, monitor, and achieve annual health, safety, and training objectives.
  • Support pre-task planning, JHAs, and high-risk work activities including LOTO, confined space, hot work, and energized work protocols.
  • Provide coaching and safety leadership to employees, contractors, and new hires through toolbox talks, training sessions, and onboarding programs.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness, including drills, response coordination, and continuous improvement of emergency plans.

Compensation
  • The expected hourly rate for this role is $46.00 USD.
    • Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications.
  • Per Diem amount of $180.00 and project allowance, when applicable
  • 15% night-shift premium for eligible roles, when applicable
  • Overtime compensation for non-exempt workers for hours worked over 40 per week
  • Relocation and Living-out-allowance (as applicable and based on successful candidate circumstances)
