Job summary

Kankakee School District 111 is looking for a High School Summer School Counselor for their 2026 Summer School Program. The ideal candidate will support students facing academic and social-emotional challenges while collaborating with staff to foster academic success.

Responsibilities include providing counseling, assisting with credit recovery, and promoting a safe and inclusive environment. Applicants must hold a valid Professional Educator License with a School Counselor endorsement and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor endorsement.
• Prior experience working with high school students in academic and counseling settings preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, teachers, and administrators.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic, social-emotional, and college/career counseling to students enrolled in summer school.
• Assist with student scheduling, credit recovery planning, and goal setting.
• Monitor student attendance, academic progress, and behavioral concerns; implement appropriate interventions.
• Collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop strategies that promote student success.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and available resources.
• Facilitate group and individual counseling sessions.
• Support transitions for incoming 9th-grade students or students preparing for graduation.
• Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
• Maintain accurate student records and submit required documentation.
• Attend required professional development and staff meetings.
