Job summary

The Portage School of Leaders in South Bend seeks a High School English/Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to engage students in meaningful, competency-based learning and interdisciplinary inquiry.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s in English or education with Indiana licensure, and a master’s degree in English is preferred. They will craft rigorous units, support diverse learners, and collaborate on school-wide initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English or education required.
• Indiana Teacher License to teach English Language Arts required.
• Master's degree in English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Designs and facilitates co-taught, cross-curricular learning experiences aligned with competencies and state standards, using a mastery-driven approach.
• Creates an intellectually rigorous, inclusive classroom environment where students engage with literature and interdisciplinary inquiry.
• Develops and revises unit plans, lessons, and assessments emphasizing project-based learning and performance assessments.
• Implements standards-based assessment practices with clear targets and formative feedback.
• Uses data and reflections to personalize instruction for diverse needs, including IEPs and multilingual learners.
• Maintains accurate records of student progress using Mastery Transcript and school systems.
• Builds strong relationships with students and families to support development.
• Collaborates to design interdisciplinary projects and integrate the Portrait of a Leader.
• Serves as a Wayfinder/Advisor to ~15 students, guiding academic planning and postsecondary exploration.
• Participates in PLCs, instructional coaching, and continuous school improvement.

Education

Bachelor's degree in English or Education

Indiana Teacher License to teach English Language Arts

Master's degree in English (preferred)
