Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Band Director to support the daily operation and instructional needs of the band program.
  • Provide direct musical instruction and rehearsal support to students as requested by the Band Director.
  • Assist with sectionals, small-group instruction, and individual student development.
  • Provide guidance and instruction related to tone production, technique, intonation, rhythm, music literacy and performance practices.
  • Assist the Band Director with rehearsals, performances, concerts, contests, festivals, and other band-related activities.
  • Assist with preparation of students and ensembles for performances and assessments.
  • Provide additional supervision and support during band activities, trips, performances, and events as needed.
  • Work with individual sections or groups of students to address musical and instructional needs.
  • Assist with classroom and rehearsal management to maintain an effective learning environment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting program needs and developing practical solutions based on prior experience.
  • Support student motivation, engagement, leadership development, and musical growth.
  • Encourage positive relationships among students, staff, families, and the school community.
  • Assist with organizational tasks related to rehearsals, performances, equipment, uniforms, music, and other program needs as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with the Band Director and appropriate school personnel regarding student and program needs.
  • Follow the direction of the current Band Director and building administration.

Non-benefited position. 5.75 hours/day $35/hour

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The band assistant will work collaboratively with the current band director to provide additional musical, instructional, organizational, and program support to the band program. The assistant will utilize their experience as a former band director or experienced instrumental music educator to assist with the day-to-day operation, instruction, and development of the band program.

They may work directly with students, provide instructional and rehearsal support, assist with sectionals and performances, and collaborate with the band director in planning and implementing effective instructional strategies. The assistant serves as an experienced resource to the band director and students while supporting the overall goals and vision of the existing band program.

The position is intended to provide additional expertise, experience, and capacity within the band program while maintaining the leadership and direction of the current band director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Music/Instrumental Music certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumental music education, rehearsal techniques, and band instruction.
