Job summary

Calvert County Government is seeking a part-time swimming instructor to provide community lessons in a safe, supervised environment at the indoor aquatic center.

The role requires ability to develop lesson plans, set up equipment, deliver instruction to various age groups, and monitor safety while keeping detailed progress notes for families.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of swim instruction methodologies.
• Knowledge of basic water safety and emergency procedures.
• Ability to communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
• Ability to demonstrate ARC Learn-to-Swim skills.
• Flexibility to adapt teaching methods for different ages and levels.

Job description

Job Description: Provide swimming instruction to the community in a safe and controlled environment.

Essential Job Functions:

• Develops and prepares lesson plans tailored to the skill levels and needs of participants.
• Sets up and organizes equipment necessary for the facilitation of lessons.
• Delivers effective swimming instruction to students of various ages and skill levels.
• Monitors and maintains the safety of all participants throughout lessons.
• Conducts evaluations and provides feedback to students and parents regarding progress.

Other Job Duties:

• Performs additional tasks as assigned, which may include assisting with special events, maintaining records, and participating in in-service training.
• Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Effective swimming instruction techniques and methodologies.
• Basic water safety and emergency procedures.
• Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff.
• Demonstrate and perform all American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim skills.
• Adapt teaching methods to meet the varying needs of students.

Required Qualifications:

• Training and/or Education: None
• Experience: None
• Licenses or Certificates: Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate or American Red Cross Basic Swim Instructor Certificate.

Special Requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or have a work permit.
• Subject to background investigation.

Physical Demands: Work requires medium to heavy physical effort.

Unusual Demands: None.

FLSA Status: Nonexempt.

Compensation:

• Pay rate: $20.58 per hour
• Grade: H13, Hourly position
• Department: Parks and Recreation, Indoor Aquatic Center
