Job description

The American Indian College Fund is dedicated to transforming lives and communities by increasing access to higher education for Native students. As the largest and highest-rated American Indian nonprofit organization, the Fund has provided over $237.1 million to support tribal college education. Empowering more than 4,000 Native students annually, the organization supports not only scholarships but also funding for tribally controlled colleges and cultural preservation activities. By addressing educational needs from early childhood to career placement, the College Fund fosters opportunities for success and growth within American Indian communities.

The College Fund is looking for an HRBP, ER to support a fair, consistent, and values-aligned employee experience through employee relations, workplace investigations, onboarding, org-wide people trainings, employee engagement, and manager and employee guidance.

The Team :

Our People Operations team is made up of Learning & Development, HR, and Building & Facilities. We collaborate to create a workplace where our staff is supported in their experience, work, and development.

What you’ll do:

We are looking for a thoughtful, steady, and people-centered HR business partner with sound judgment, strong facilitation skills, and the ability to handle sensitive workplace matters with confidentiality and care. This role independently manages routine to moderately complex employee relations concerns and investigations, leads onboarding and org-wide people trainings, supports employee engagement and culture-building efforts with a DEI lens, and escalates high-risk issues only when needed, including matters involving senior leadership, legal risk, or significant organizational impact.

This role reports into the People Operations Director and is expected to travel no more than 10% of the time. This is a hybrid position based in Denver starting with 3 days in office during onboarding then transitioning into 2 days in office.

Your Day to Day
  • Onboarding & People Training
    • Own the post-hire onboarding experience, including welcome touchpoints, orientation content, first-day experience, 30-day check-ins, and connection to people resources.
    • Develop and facilitate org-wide people trainings on respectful workplace practices, communication, feedback, conflict navigation, manager expectations, onboarding, and inclusive team practices.
    • Create and maintain practical training materials, onboarding resources, and follow-up tools that support consistent interpersonal practices across the organization.
  • Employee Relations & Investigations
    • Serve as the first touch point for employee relations concerns, workplace conflicts, conduct issues, and policy-related interpersonal matters.
    • Manage workplace investigations, including intake, interviews, fact gathering, documentation, findings, and recommended next steps including but not limited to resolving or escalating complaints appropriately.
    • Support managers with performance and conduct concerns through clear documentation, feedback summaries, corrective action materials, and follow-up plans.
    • Support employee leave and accommodation matters through employee-facing conversations, manager guidance, interactive process documentation, and appropriate escalation.
  • Employee Engagement & Culture
    • Support employee engagement efforts by gathering and synthesizing feedback.
    • Represent People Operations in employee-facing committees or working groups related to belonging, inclusion, engagement, and workplace culture.
  • Documentation & Follow-Through
    • Maintain confidential people relations files, investigation notes, onboarding materials, training records, engagement summaries, case trackers, and outcome documentation.

Note: This position description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties. The HRBP, ER may be assigned additional duties related to the role as needed to advance the College Fund’s mission.

What You Bring:
  • 4+ years of human resources, employee relations, learning and development, community development, or related experience supporting investigations, onboarding, training, engagement, performance documentation, or conduct-related concerns.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolving employee complaints or concerns with sound judgment and appropriate escalation.
  • Experience facilitating onboarding, manager trainings, organization-wide people trainings, or employee engagement activities.
  • Working knowledge of employee relations practices, investigation processes, policy interpretation, facilitation practices, and documentation standards.
  • Ability to handle sensitive conversations, synthesize employee feedback, assess risk, and maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear case notes, investigation summaries, engagement summaries, training materials, performance documentation, and follow-up materials.
  • Sound judgment and ability to determine when escalation is appropriate.
It’s a bonus if you also have:
  • Personal and/or professional lived experience in Native Indigenous communities.
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or facilitation/training certification
What you’ll get:

$62,048 - $68,253 in annual salary

Comprehensive benefits package including PTO, HRA, professional development stipends, bonuses and more.
