Indiana Electric Cooperatives is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Manager to serve as the primary resource for workplace culture, employee relations, leadership support, and labor matters. The role partners with the CEO and leadership team to foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and respect.

Responsibilities include recruitment and onboarding, engagement and retention, compensation, succession planning, workforce planning, and HR compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, business or related field, or 4+ years HR experience.
  • HR certification required (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent).
  • Experience with complex employee relations, performance concerns, discipline, investigations.
  • Experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements and union processes is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, judgment, problem-solving, and project-management skills.
  • Knowledge of employment law, compensation, recruitment, retention, succession planning, HR best practices.
  • Strong technology skills and confidential documentation.

Job description

We are seeking a dynamic, people-focused Human Resources Manager to serve as the Cooperative’s primary resource for workplace culture, employee relations, leadership support, and labor relations. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder, practical problem solver, and trusted advisor who is comfortable helping leaders and employees work through difficult issues while strengthening a positive, accountable, and productive work environment.

The HR Manager works closely with the CEO and leadership team to strengthen a culture of teamwork, engagement, respect, and accountability. This role also supports recruitment and onboarding, employee engagement and retention, compensation, succession and workforce planning, and employment compliance.

PRIMARY EXPECTATIONS
  • Strengthen Culture & Employee Engagement– Lead efforts that strengthen teamwork, engagement, respect, accountability, collaboration, retention, and positive workplace behaviors.
  • Employee Relations & Discipline– Serve as the Cooperative’s primary resource for employee relations, workplace concerns, investigations, corrective action, discipline, conflict resolution, and consistent application of policies and employment practices.
  • Address Difficult Issues Early– Coach and support managers in addressing performance, behavior, conflict, and accountability issues early, directly, and professionally. Participate in difficult conversations when appropriate while reinforcing management ownership and accountability.
  • Leadership Development & Organizational Change– Partner with the CEO and leadership team on leadership coaching, team development, change management, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Union & CBA Support– Understand and apply the collective bargaining agreement and established union processes. Serve as a resource to management on CBA interpretation, grievances, discipline, and other labor matters, and clearly explain applicable contract provisions and processes to employees.
ADDITIONAL HR RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and employee integration; support employee engagement and retention efforts; oversee the compensation program; maintain HR compliance with applicable employment laws and Cooperative policies; monitor workplace trends; and recommend practical actions that support a strong workforce and positive employee experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field, or at least four years of progressively responsible human resources experience.
  • HR certification required (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience with complex employee relations, performance concerns, discipline, conflict resolution, investigations, and difficult employee conversations.
  • Experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements and working within established union processes is strongly preferred.
  • Electric cooperative, utility, or similar operational experience is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, judgment, problem-solving, organizational, and project-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of employment law, compensation, recruitment, retention, succession planning, and HR best practices.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to maintain accurate, confidential documentation and information.
