Job description

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Human Resources Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day HR functions for three related companies. Reporting to the COO, this individual will serve as the primary HR resource for the organization and will work closely with employees, supervisors, company leadership, outside vendors, and staffing partners.

This is an excellent opportunity for a well‑rounded HR professional who enjoys being directly involved in the business. The position requires someone who can independently manage HR responsibilities while remaining approachable and responsive to employees and management.

The current HR Manager is retiring and will provide training and transition support, allowing the new HR Manager to learn the companies, employees, processes, and systems before assuming full responsibility for the function.

Responsibilities:
Payroll & HR Administration
  • Oversee accurate and timely payroll administration using Paychex.
  • Maintain employee personnel files, HR records, and confidential documentation.
  • Manage employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Maintain attendance, vacation, PTO, and leave records.
  • Handle wage garnishments, child support orders, unemployment claims, and employment/wage verifications.
  • Coordinate with payroll providers, accountants, and outside HR resources as needed.
  • Ensure employee information and HR documentation are accurate, organized, and confidential.
Benefits Administration
  • Administer employee health, dental, vision, life, disability, and other benefit programs.
  • Manage relationships with benefits vendors and insurance providers.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment and benefit renewals.
  • Participate in benefits strategy, renewal negotiations, and cost management.
  • Assist employees with benefits questions and provide benefits communication and education as needed.
  • Coordinate recruiting and hiring activities based on company needs.
  • Manage relationships with temporary staffing agencies and outside recruiting partners.
  • Coordinate temporary labor requirements for the organization.
  • Work with management to identify staffing needs and assist with candidate selection.
  • Oversee onboarding activities for new employees and temporary workers.

Because the companies have a relatively tenured workforce, this position will focus more heavily on managing staffing needs and agency relationships than on high‑volume corporate recruiting or employer branding.

Employee Relations
  • Serve as a primary HR contact for employees and management.
  • Address employee concerns and workplace issues professionally and confidentially.
  • Conduct investigations involving employee complaints, harassment allegations, disciplinary matters, and other workplace concerns.
  • Manage disciplinary actions and employee terminations in partnership with management.
  • Provide practical HR guidance to supervisors and managers as needed.
  • Help ensure fair and consistent application of company policies.
Compliance, Leave & Risk Management
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements.
  • Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other employee leave programs.
  • Manage unemployment claims and related documentation.
  • Maintain required HR records and compliance documentation.
  • Maintain and update employee policies, procedures, and handbook information as needed.
  • Coordinate with outside resources on employment or compliance matters when appropriate.
OSHA, Safety & Workers' Compensation

This position will take an active role in employee safety and workers' compensation matters within the manufacturing environments.

  • Coordinate OSHA compliance activities.
  • Maintain required OSHA logs, records, and documentation.
  • Manage workplace accident and injury investigations.
  • Work with employees, supervisors, insurance providers, and outside resources regarding workplace injuries.
  • Assist with safety communication, meetings, and training.
  • Promote safe work practices throughout the organization.
  • Identify safety or compliance issues requiring management attention.
Compensation & Performance Management
  • Assist management with employee compensation decisions.
  • Conduct compensation benchmarking and market analysis when needed.
  • Provide salary and wage information to support management decisions.
  • Coordinate the company's annual performance review process.
  • Maintain performance‑related documentation and records.
Policies & Process Improvement
  • Develop, maintain, and update HR policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve administrative HR processes.
  • Maintain consistent HR practices across the related companies.
  • Help improve HR organization, recordkeeping, reporting, and workflow.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office 365 and applicable HR/payroll systems to manage HR information and reporting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of HR Manager experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll, employee benefits, employee relations, workers' compensation, and HR compliance.
  • Experience working with OSHA requirements and workplace safety programs.
  • Experience managing employee investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, leave administration, and employment regulations.
  • Experience managing temporary staffing agencies and outside HR/vendor relationships.
  • Experience with compensation benchmarking and wage/salary analysis.
  • Experience with Paychex is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain employee confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
What We're Looking For
