Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking an HR Generalist for the Department of Safety and Security. You will be the primary contact for HR matters across DSS units, handling onboarding, payroll coordination, and employee relations with a focus on customer service.

Responsibilities include coordinating job descriptions, recruiting, background checks, and ensuring compliance with university policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

• Requires college or university degree in a related field.
• 2–5 years of related HR experience or equivalent.
• Preferred: Master’s degree and Workday experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for HR-related issues within DSS.
• Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, background checks, and offer letters.
• Advise on benefits, leaves, and employee labor relations matters.
• Ensure compliance with University policies and federal/state regulations.
• Support UCPD hiring processes including testing and interviews.
• Maintain HR data and reporting for management review.
