Job summary

The University of Chicago is seeking a Human Resources Generalist within the Department of Safety and Security to serve as the main HR contact for all units. You will manage confidential matters, assist with onboarding, and coordinate hiring and employee relations across the department.

You will develop job descriptions, liaise with Shared Services and Payroll, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the UCPD recruitment process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field required.
• 2–5 years of related work experience.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with Workday or similar HRIS systems.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the first point of contact for HR-related issues across DSS units, including job descriptions, onboarding, terminations, and employee relations.
• Coordinates with Shared Services, Payroll, and Student Employment to resolve employment and payment issues.
• Advises staff on benefits and compensation and oversees recruitment processes for DSS and UCPD.
• Maintains HR data, prepares reports, and ensures compliance with federal, state, and university policies.
