Job summary

TI Automotive in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking an HR Generalist focused on employee relations, investigations, and compliance for a 700-employee, three-shift manufacturing facility. This role oversees leave administration end-to-end and maintains HR records to meet IATF 16949 standards.

The position reports to the HR Manager and partners with plant leadership to address issues, manage investigations, and ensure accurate personnel transactions across all levels, including hourly workers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field.
  • 3–5 years HR generalist experience in manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, and employment law.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  • Exposure to IATF 16949 or other quality-management standards a plus.

Job description

Position Summary

The HR Generalist – Employee Relations & Operations owns the day-to-day employee relations, compliance, and leave administration function for a ~700-employee, three-shift manufacturing facility. This role is the primary point of contact for employee and supervisor concerns, workplace investigations, corrective action, and legally required leave and accommodation processes, and ensures HR documentation and personnel transactions meet IATF 16949 and company recordkeeping standards. This is a high-autonomy role reporting directly to the HR Manager and is a critical partner to plant leadership.


Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Investigations


  • Serve as first point of contact for employee and supervisor concerns across Direct Labor, Indirect Labor, and Salaried populations

  • Conduct workplace investigations (harassment, policy violations, conduct/performance issues) and document findings

  • Coach supervisors on progressive discipline, performance management, and difficult conversations

  • Prepare and issue corrective action documentation, written warnings, and termination paperwork

  • Maintain the employee relations case tracker and ensure timely resolution and closure of open matters


Leave Administration & Compliance


  • Administer FMLA, ADA/accommodation requests, and short-term disability processes end to end

  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims, restrictions, and return-to-work planning with supervisors and the safety team

  • Own attendance policy administration in ADP, including point tracking, notifications, and escalation

  • Maintain compliance with I-9, EEO, and other required federal/state HR recordkeeping

  • Support internal and external audits (including IATF 16949 documentation requirements) as the HR records owner


HR Operations Support


  • Process personnel action forms and employee change notices in ADP Workforce Now

  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready employee files (physical and electronic)

  • Partner with the HR Manager on policy interpretation, plant communications, and union-avoidance/employee engagement efforts

  • Provide backup coverage for payroll-related timecard and attendance issues as needed


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 3–5 years of HR generalist experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, including direct employee relations casework

  • Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, and general employment law

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now or a comparable HRIS strongly preferred

  • Exposure to IATF 16949 or other quality-management documentation standards a plus

  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and documentation skills; comfortable managing sensitive, confidential matters

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization, including hourly production employees and plant leadership


PHYSICAL / WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Regular presence on the production floor across a three-shift operation; some early morning, evening, or weekend availability required to support ER matters

  • Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout a manufacturing environment; standard office and plant PPE requirements apply
