Job summary

Flix seeks an experienced HR Generalist to support operations in Chicago, IL or Atlanta, GA. You will partner with management on employee relations, compliance, compensation, performance, leaves, and HRIS data in a high-volume, unionized setting.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in HR or related field and 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with union experience and FMCSA familiarity. This in-office role requires M-F presence and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience in a unionized, high-volume transportation setting.
• Direct experience with unionized workforce, collective bargaining agreements, and labor law.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary point of contact for employee relations matters, investigations, discipline, and coaching.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Support compensation programs including job evaluations, salary benchmarking, and union pay scales.
• Administer end-to-end performance management cycles and evaluations.
• Manage all employee leave programs (FMLA, ADA accommodations, disability, personal leave).
• Handle unemployment insurance claims and state agency responses.
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of HRIS data and employee records.
• Oversee onboarding, background checks, I-9 verifications, and new hire orientation.

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven HR Generalist to join our Human Resources team, supporting operations in Chicago, IL, or Atlanta, GA. This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional with a strong background in a complex, high-volume, unionized transportation or bus line environment. The HR Generalist will serve as a strategic partner and day-to-day resource for employees and management, administering a broad range of HR functions including employee relations, labor relations, compliance, and people operations. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of working in an intercity passenger transportation setting and is comfortable navigating the nuances of a represented workforce.

About the Role

• Employee Relations (ER) - Serves as the primary point of contact and driver for employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, manager enablement and coaching, etc.
• Compliance - Ensures organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
• Compensation Management - Support the administration of the company’s compensation programs, including job evaluations, salary benchmarking, job descriptions and classifications, annual merit review process, union pay scales, etc.
• Performance Management - Administer end-to-end performance management cycles, including goal-setting, mid-year check-ins and annual evaluations, progressive disciplinary processes, etc.
• Leave Administration - Manage and serve as point of contact for all employee leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term and long-term disability, personal leave, etc.
• Unemployment Compensation - Manage unemployment insurance claims and timely state agency responses
• People Operations - Maintain accuracy and integrity of employee data in the HRIS, including employment changes, promotions, status changes, etc.
• Onboarding - Manage pre-employment activities and full onboarding experience, including background checks, I9 verifications, new hire orientations, etc.

About You

• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive HR Generalist experience, with demonstrated proficiency across the functional areas listed above
• Direct experience working within a unionized workforce; strong working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, grievance procedures, and labor law
• Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
• Demonstrable experience identifying opportunities for improving HR processes, systems, and overall employee experience
• Prior experience in intercity bus transportation, passenger rail, transit authority, or comparable high-volume, multi-location transportation operations
• Experience supporting DOT-regulated employees and familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements
• This position requires full-time, M-F in-office presence in either Chicago, IL, or Atlanta, GA, as well as availability to travel to operational locations as needed

Preferred Experience

• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
• Experience supporting multiple sites or geographically dispersed employee populations

Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 USD
