milk + honey holdings, llc is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to build compliant, people-focused HR practices across multiple states, with emphasis on onboarding, employee relations, and compliance.

You will partner with leadership to support a multi-state team throughout the employee lifecycle, including coaching managers, policy alignment, and HR system governance. This role requires a hands-on, service-driven mindset across locations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of HR Generalist experience across multi-location environments.
• Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance.
• Experience leading onboarding and employee relations processes.
• Proficient in HRIS systems and documentation best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end onboarding and orientation sessions for new hires.
• Serve as the primary contact for employee relations and provide coaching to managers.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and update policies accordingly.
• Act as SME for HR systems and support Payroll on escalations.
• Educate managers on HR policies and best practices across locations.
• Provide day-to-day HR guidance to employees on policies, benefits, and processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align HR initiatives with business goals.

Description

We’re looking for an experienced HR Generalist with a passion for building and maintaining compliant and people-centered HR practices. In this role, you’ll partner closely with leadership to support a multi-state team across the full employee lifecycle, with particular focus on employee relations, onboarding , and compliance . The ideal candidate brings deep HR expertise, excellent judgment, and a service-driven mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Onboarding: Lead the end-to-end onboarding journey post-offer acceptance, facilitating weekly orientation sessions and conducting thoughtful follow-ups to ensure new hires feel welcomed and fully equipped for success. Review new hire survey feedback and engagement touchpoints to continuously enhance the integration experience for team members.
• Employee Relations : Partner directly with managers and employees as the primary point of contact for workplace concerns, guiding resolution with clear and consistent documentation. Support managers through performance coaching and documentation processes and track trends to proactively improve workforce health across locations..
• Compliance: Serve as the first point of contact for compliance, keeping up-to-date with federal, state, and local labor laws to help refine company policies, handbooks, and internal documentation. Drive data integrity across all HR systems, managing confidential records with care and delivering reliable compliance reporting.
• HR System : Act as the subject matter expert for our HR system—understanding how it interacts with the employee lifecycle, internal processes, and policies—and support the Payroll Team on any system or policy-related escalations.
• Manager Education : Influence and administer manager training related to employee relations, HR policies, and HR systems to elevate team-wide knowledge and compliance.
• Policy & Practice Guidance : Support employees on a day-to-day basis and answer questions about policies, benefits, procedures, and company culture within.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration : Create and maintain effective and productive partnerships across departments, acting as a strategic partner to both employees and leadership. Serve as a trusted partner and point of contact for team members across all locations on HR-related matters.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of HR Generalist experience, ideally in a multi-location or hospitality/service environment.
• Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance across multi-state operations (California compliance experience strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated experience managing onboarding and employee relations processes.
• Proficiency in HRIS systems, such as Paylocity, and documentation best practices.
• Impeccable organizational and interpersonal skills.
• A calm, professional demeanor with high EQ.
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is a plus.
