Job summary

J.P. Thomas & Company is seeking a welcoming and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to support our workplace culture and leadership team. You will guide onboarding, employee relations, safety, payroll support, and HR systems to help our people thrive.

You’ll be a key resource for team members, handling policies with discretion, maintaining HR records, and collaborating across departments to keep job descriptions current and processes running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in HR, Business, or Organizational Development required.
• Bachelor’s degree and/or PHR certification preferred.
• Hands-on HR experience in a retail or equivalent setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist hiring, coordinate background/reference checks, and onboard using ADP Workforce Now.
• Process and maintain personnel, medical, safety, and training records in the HRIS.
• Support employee relations, payroll processes, and compliance with federal/state regulations.
• Help with safety programs, Workers' Comp, OSHA records.
• Update job descriptions and collaborate with management across teams.

In this role, you will be a key resource for our team members, handling everything from onboarding and employee relations to workplace safety, payroll support, and HR systems . What You’ll Do

Support Our People: Serve as a friendly first point of contact for employee questions regarding standard policies, benefits, and HR systems .

Manage Onboarding & Hiring: Assist managers through the hiring process, coordinate background and reference checks, and manage smooth onboarding using ADP Workforce Now .

Maintain HR Operations: Process, verify, and maintain personnel, medical, safety, and training documentation within our HRIS .

Promote Compliance & Safety: Help ensure legal compliance with federal and state regulations, support safety protocols, and assist with Workers' Compensation and OSHA records .

Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with management and team members to keep job descriptions up to date and support payroll processing procedures when needed .

What We’re Looking For

Education: An Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development is required; a Bachelor’s degree and/or a PHR certification are a wonderful plus !

Experience: At least 1 years of hands-on experience in a Human Resources role (retail-based or equivalent experience is warmly preferred) .

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now .

Core Knowledge: Familiarity with employment law, employee relations, safety, and training practices .

Personality & Approach: Excellent communication skills, a high level of discretion and confidentiality , and a genuinely friendly, approachable demeanor when working with co-workers at all levels.
