Job summary

Great Bay Kids Company in Portsmouth, NH, seeks an HR Coordinator to support day-to-day people operations. Reporting to the Director of Staffing, you will own recruiting outreach, interview coordination, and compliance across labor laws while promoting a positive, equitable workplace.

You will manage onboarding, benefits assistance, HR policy guidance, and staff inquiries, partnering with leadership to align human resources practices with the organization's mission.

Qualifications

  • Requires Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in HR, admin, or people-operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

About This Role

The Human Resources Coordinator supports the day-to-day people operations of Great Bay Kids. Reporting to the Director of Staffing, this role owns the tactical, hands‑on work of HR: building recruitment pathways in the community, stewarding the interview process, and fully owning the compliance and risk management function. The HR Coordinator is a primary point of contact for staff seeking HR guidance and helps ensure HR practices are clear, consistent, compliant, and aligned with the organization's mission and values, while contributing to a positive andequitableworkplace culture.

What You'll Do
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Own the compliance and risk management umbrella associated with HR.
  • Support consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook guidelines.
  • Assistwith compliance related to federal and state labor laws.
  • Trackcompliancedocumentation and support audits, inspections, and documentation requests as needed.
  • Assistwithbenefitsadministration and training tracking.

Employee Support & Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for staff to raise HR-related issues or concerns
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee questions related to HR policies, benefits, time off, and employment practices.
  • Providebest-practiceguidance to directors and support supervisors with employee relations documentation and corrective action tracking.
  • Sitin onconflict resolution meetings, providing best practices and guidance to directors.
  • Assistin resolving routine employee issues by providing guidance and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Promote fair, consistent, and respectful workplace practices.

Recruiting & Onboarding
  • Own the tactical arm of recruiting:getting out into the community, circulating recruitment materials, and building partnerships with local colleges and organizations to meet candidates where they are.
  • Steward the interview process endto end, with an emphasis on moving candidates through the process quickly and thoughtfully.
  • Designs and implements onboarding process
  • Post job openings, review resumes, and coordinate interviews.
  • Conduct initial candidate screenings.
  • Attend job fairs and hiring events.
  • Manage background and reference checks.
  • Partner with the Director of Staffing, who sets recruitment priorities and oversees onboarding systems, to ensure recruiting efforts align with the organization's staffing model.
Requirements
  • Associate'sorBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, ora relatedfield (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–4 years of experience in an HR, administrative, or people-operations role.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in a nonprofit,child care, education, or human services environment.
  • Experience supporting hourly staff and multi-site operations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS and benefits systems.
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar).
