The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) seeks a full-time, on-site HR Consultant based in Cullowhee, NC. You will provide comprehensive HR support to NCCAT leadership and staff, developing and maintaining policies, advising on employee relations, and guiding supervisors on performance management.

Company Description The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) provides evidence-based professional development for educators across North Carolina through residential, school-based, and online programs. Since 1985, NCCAT has served every district in the state, supporting teacher growth in knowledge, skills, compassion, and professionalism to enhance student engagement and success. The organization operates campuses in Cullowhee and Ocracoke and offers a wide range of learning opportunities. Programs focus on areas such as digital learning, literacy, math, science, social studies, STEM, and CTE, giving educators practical strategies to use in their classrooms.

Role Description The HR Consultant is a full-time, on-site role based in Cullowhee, NC, responsible for providing comprehensive human resources support to NCCAT leadership and staff. This position will develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and applicable regulations. Daily responsibilities include advising on employee relations issues, guiding supervisors on performance management, and supporting recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives. The HR Consultant will conduct HR-related training, ensure compliance with labor and employment laws, and collaborate with leadership to create equitable and inclusive workplace practices. The role also involves maintaining accurate HR records, supporting benefits administration, and contributing to HR process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in Human Resources (HR) and HR Management, including supporting organizational HR operations.
  • Knowledge of HR Policies and procedures, with the ability to develop, interpret, and communicate policy guidance.
  • Strong background in Employee Relations, including conflict resolution, coaching supervisors, and promoting a positive workplace culture.
  • Working knowledge of Labor and Employment Law, with experience ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and to make sound, ethical decisions.
  • Experience in education, nonprofit, or public sector environments is beneficial, along with a commitment to supporting educators and student success.
