Job summary

State of Kansas - KS Wildlife & Parks is hiring a full-time unclassified Human Resources Assistant Director based in Topeka, Shawnee County. This role reports to the Human Resource Director and supports HR functions across the agency with training, recruitment oversight, and policy guidance.

The position requires HR experience, SHARP knowledge, and strong communication skills, with supervisory duties and a focus on classification and compensation recommendations.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check.
• Three years of HR planning, directing, organizing, or administering functions.
• Education may substitute for experience as determined by the agency.
• Knowledge of Microsoft products and SHARP; HR principles and statutes.

Responsibilities

• Assist HR Director with key responsibilities including training coordination and recruitment oversight.
• Support personnel policies, disciplinary and grievance procedures.
• Contribute to position classification and compensation recommendations.
• Draft position descriptions; gather input and prepare justification packages.
• Supervise a small staff of recruiters and oversee full-cycle recruitment.
• Collaborate with legal staff on policies and procedures.
