Job summary

POWER Atlanta is seeking an HR & Operations Consultant to provide strategic and hands-on support across human resources, operations, compliance, and administration. You will work with the Executive Director to build efficient systems, policies, processes, and documentation for a mission-driven nonprofit.

The role covers onboarding, offboarding, handbook updates, recruitment support, SOP development, payroll coordination, governance, and program reporting, with a collaborative, growth-oriented

Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit organizations and mission-driven environments.
  • Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures.
  • Experience with onboarding, offboarding, and handbook development.
  • Coordinate performance reviews and employee relations initiatives.
  • Strong documentation, staffing records, and compliance calendar management.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures.
  • Maintain employee and contractor files with proper documentation.
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Create onboarding checklists and new-hire processes.
  • Assist with employee handbook updates.
  • Coordinate performance reviews.
  • Support employee relations and workplace issue resolution.
  • Maintain organizational staffing records and HR documentation.
  • Coordinate with payroll and benefits providers as applicable.
  • Assist leadership with recruitment, job descriptions, interview processes, and hiring workflows.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and administrative workflows.
  • Maintain organizational calendars, deadlines, and recurring operational requirements.
  • Develop systems for tracking contracts, vendors, licenses, insurance, renewals, and other organizational documents.
  • Support leadership with project management and organizational planning.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Create checklists, templates, forms, and workflows to improve consistency.
  • Assist with coordination between clinical, administrative, marketing, and leadership functions.
  • Maintain organized digital files and organizational records.
  • Support nonprofit governance and administrative requirements.
  • Maintain organizational compliance calendars and documentation.
  • Assist with preparation for audits, funder reviews, grants, and organizational reporting.
  • Maintain records related to nonprofit registrations, insurance, contracts, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with board and committee administrative support as needed.
  • Help ensure organizational policies and procedures are consistently implemented.
  • Support documentation required for grants, programs, and funding partners.
  • Help develop systems that can scale as POWER Atlanta grows.
  • Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability structures.
  • Assist leadership with annual planning and organizational goals.
  • Develop dashboards, trackers, and reporting systems as needed.
  • Support creation of a positive, professional, inclusive, and mission‑aligned workplace culture.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce administrative burden and improve staff productivity.

Position Summary The HR & Operations Consultant will provide strategic and hands‑on support across human resources, organizational operations, compliance, administration, and staff infrastructure. This individual will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and maintain efficient systems, policies, processes, and documentation that allow POWER Atlanta to operate effectively and sustainably. The ideal candidate has prior nonprofit experience, understands the unique operational needs of mission‑driven organizations, and is comfortable working in a growing organization where priorities can change quickly.
