Job summary

Sonoco Products Company in DeForest, WI is seeking a Plant Administrator to support HR and general office duties. You will assist onboarding, benefits enrollment, and payroll processes while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include coordinating new hire onboarding, safety training, FMLA support, and visitor management, with opportunities to contribute across sites and projects. A minimum of 2 years in HR/administrative roles is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of general HR or administrative experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with time and attendance and HRIS systems (Workday, UKG, etc.).
  • Strong integrity, trust, and ethical standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and communicate clearly at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist employees with onboarding, documentation, and I-9 verification; support Workday navigation and benefits enrollment.
  • Lead plant orientation programs with HR and plant leadership to improve onboarding.
  • Assist with drug testing, pre-employment, and background checks.
  • Support hourly payroll processes and seek process improvements.
  • Process new hires (badges, timekeeping updates, hire information).
  • Conduct employee training including new hire orientation and safety training.
  • Assist in administering the FMLA program.
  • Support other sites/projects (recruiting, performance management).
  • Maintain office operations: ordering, supply management, coordinating meetings, answering calls.
  • Greets visitors and enforces visitor safety protocols.

While reporting to the Senior Human Resources Manager,the Plant Administrator serves as a key support resource for the Human Resources team performing a variety of HR administrative functions while also providing administrative support to other departments across the facility. This role is responsible for welcoming and assisting visitors, answering phone calls, and general office duties such as ordering office supplies, meals, etc.


What you'll be doing:
  • Assists employees with onboarding processes, documentation, and I-9 verification; helps employees with Workday login and navigation and explaining and enrolling employees in benefits.
  • Leads plant orientation programs, engaging with HR team and plant leadership and work to improve program within plant.
  • Assists in managing random drug testing, pre-employment, and background check process.
  • Supports hourly payroll function and looks for opportunities for process improvement.
  • Processes new hourly hires, including issuing badges, updating timekeeping information, and finalizing hire information.
  • Holds employee training including new hire orientation and annual safety training.
  • Assists in administering FMLA program by tracking leave and issuing forms and information to employees.
  • May support activities within other sites and projects related to and not limited to corrective actions, recruiting, and performance management.
  • Maintains office operations by performing clerical functions such as ordering meals, ordering office supplies, coordinating company functions/meetings, and answering and directing incoming calls.
  • Greets visitors, ensuring they follow proper visitor protocol and safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • You have a minimum of 2 years of general HR or administrative experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Proven experience in time and attendance and working with HRIS (Workday, UKG, etc.).
  • Have a high level of integrity, trust, and ethical standards.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee issues and data.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to clearly communicate (written and verbal) to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
