Job summary

The University of Chicago's Data Science Institute seeks a Systems Administrator 3 to design, operate, and secure HPC and general IT infrastructure, including Linux servers, storage, networking, and audiovisual systems.

You will maintain and upgrade HPC clusters, implement automation with Ansible and Puppet, manage DNS/DHCP, monitor health, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with faculty, researchers, and staff. A partially remote schedule is available.

Qualifications

• Education: college or university degree in a related field.
• 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Experience with Linux administration and HPC environments.

Responsibilities

• Administer Linux-based servers, storage systems, and workstations.
• Maintain and support the DSI HPC cluster and scheduling infrastructure.
• Implement configuration management and automation (Ansible and/or Puppet).
• Plan upgrades, migrations, and large-scale projects with minimal guidance.
• Monitor health and capacity; analyze logs and metrics for issues.
• Manage core services: DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, authentication, access control.
• Support networking infrastructure and AV systems.
