Job description

GDIT is seeking a dynamic HPC expert to provide data analysis and expert recommendations to advance utilization of HPC resources. You will be supporting the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). As an HPC SME, you will join a team of innovative and savvy engineers and computational scientists. We focus on building collaborative relationships with the HPC community to better understand customer technology needs and challenges. Our team of computational scientists help solve the HPC challenges for DoD scientists and engineers across the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The HPCMP PET team was created to provide expert computational support for users of the supercomputing systems within the DoD. The team serves as a customer-facing presence for the DoD science and technology community, providing SME advice for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and support needs.

Position Details:
*The position is remote with occasional travel for meetings. However, you must be available during the core hours in the Eastern Time Zone.

How the High Performance Computing SME will make an impact:

  1. Engage with HPC community to build an understanding of HPC needs (both current and future). Stay current with new technology solutions and optimizations in HPC.
  2. Drive exploration and understanding of HPC resource utilization computing and how it supports DoD HPC communities.
  3. Lead or attend meetings and discussions with team members and customers to troubleshoot complicated technical problems and brainstorm ways to continuously improve our services.
  4. Occasionally present to senior leadership on HPC best practices, new technologies, and ways you approached and solved challenging technical issues.
  5. Advise your team members or customers on technical challenges and assist them in identifying available resources.

What you’ll need to be successful:

  1. Education: Masters’ Degree and ten additional years of work experience.
  2. Experience: Minimum of eight years of relevant HPC experience.
  3. Skills and Abilities: Experience working independently on projects, which includes meeting the schedule on time and managing customer expectations. This position requires a detailed, working understanding of high performance computing and its application to the research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) community. Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical users.
  4. Experience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps that must be resolved to reach performance targets and functionality requirements.
  5. Innovative mindset: Push to understand needs in-depth and think broadly and creatively about solutions.
  6. Experience with data analysis and how data can be utilized to solve customer challenges.
  7. Trust: Ability to build and maintain trust of our team and customer base.
  8. Technical Skills: Familiarity with commonly used HPC applications and services (i.e., schedulers, high performance file systems, modules for installing applications, compilers, MPI, OpenMP, profiling tools).
  9. Science: Be able to understand (at a high-level) what is driving research and how HPC can best support and enable this.
  10. Must be able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.

Location: Remote

Salary and Benefit Information:
The likely salary range for this position is $169,189 - $228,903. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
