Job summary

Viridien in Houston, TX is seeking an experienced HPC Data Center Linux IT Specialist to support our global HPC and Cloud infrastructure. You will administer Linux systems, manage storage, and participate in ITIL-aligned change processes, with a focus on reliability, security, and performance.

You will document configurations, automate routine tasks, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with cross-functional groups to meet business needs and policy standards.

Qualifications

• 3+ years Linux administration, ideally in HPC.
• Strong system administration, troubleshooting and IT service management.
• Experience with data storage systems (SAN/NAS/tape).
• Automation/configuration management with Puppet/Chef/Salt/Ansible/GitLab or equivalent.
• Familiar with open-source technologies and cloud services; Docker and containers.
• Scripting in Bash/Python/Perl; able to create clear documentation.
• Adheres to change control procedures for stability and risk reduction.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical documentation including diagrams and guides.
• Install, configure, maintain Linux-based hardware and software for HPC infra.
• Participate in Change Management per ITIL standards.
• Schedule upgrades, perform routine maintenance, ensure security and privacy.
• Provide expert-level support, mentor juniors, and troubleshoot issues.
• Respond to tickets and resolve system crashes, performance issues, and breaches.
• Monitor systems via performance metrics and logs; detect issues early.
• Improve services through automation, optimization, and standardization.
• Configure and manage SLURM queues and support HPC environments.
• Collaborate across teams to align IT with business needs and policies.
• Demonstrate project/time management in a dynamic setting.
• Support in-house applications following organizational standards.
