Job summary

University of Southern California is seeking a Research Programmer II for the CSI-Cancer institute to bridge software and hardware in cancer research. You will develop data analysis methods and pipelines, supporting studies on early detection, liquid biopsy, and rare-cell detection with scalable computing platforms.

You will work with engineers, scientists, and clinicians to implement reproducible research computing solutions, contribute to publications and grant proposals, and mentor junior

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• Proficient software development with Python, C/C++, R, Java or equivalent and ML frameworks.
• Experience with large, complex biological or clinical datasets.
• Knowledge of contrastive deep learning and common ML techniques (clustering, NN).
• Proficient SQL and relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
• Advanced Linux/Unix HPC experience; OpenMP/MPI; GPU familiarity.
• Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document robust computational workflows, testing procedures, and production pipelines for high‑content single‑cell, liquid biopsy, imaging, and multi‑omics research.
• Maintain currency with new technologies and continuously develop skills and abilities.
• Serve as a technical resource to researchers, aligning computing solutions with cancer research objectives in mathematical oncology and translational science.
• Support collaborative research efforts at institutional, regional, and national levels to advance CSI‑Cancer’s priorities.
• Contribute to study design, prototype implementations, and preparation of technical reports and grants.
