Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is seeking a senior HPC benchmarking specialist in Minnesota to conduct scientific application performance benchmarks for sales engagements and internal product decisions. You will benchmark scientific ISV and open-source HPC applications on HPE systems to generate performance results and insights.

This role requires a deep understanding of HPC architectures, MPI/OpenMP and CUDA/OpenACC, and the ability to optimize benchmarks on Linux-based clusters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., CS, math, engineering, physics).
  • Typically 6-10 years experience in HPC or related fields.
  • Academic or industry HPC experience is essential.
  • Strong understanding of scientific and engineering application benchmarks used in HPC markets.
  • Ability to evaluate, tune, and optimize benchmark performance on Linux HPC systems.
  • Experience with MPI-based parallel programming and runtime environments.
  • Experience with C, C++, Fortran; OpenMP; CUDA/OpenACC is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python and shell scripting; Linux command-line tools.

  • Analyze benchmark results to identify bottlenecks across compute, memory, accelerator, interconnect, MPI, and I/O subsystems.
  • Recommend optimization approaches for improved application performance on HPE HPC platforms.
  • Monitor HPE and competitor HPC products and relevant performance optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with HPE colleagues and external technical peers.
  • Provide benchmarking consultation and technical guidance to Sales, Marketing, and Development teams.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Typically 6-10 years experience
  • Academic or industry experience in HPC
  • Strong understanding of scientific and engineering application benchmarks used in the HPC market
  • Ability to evaluate, tune, and optimize computational application benchmark performance on Linux-based HPC systems
  • Experience with MPI-based parallel programming and runtime environments
  • Experience with compilers and programming languages such as C, C++, and Fortran
  • Experience with OpenMP and other shared-memory parallel programming approaches
  • Experience with Python, shell scripting, and other automation or scripting languages
  • Experience with Linux operating environments, command-line tools, and system-level workflows
  • Experience with performance profiling, tracing, analysis, and debugging tools
  • Knowledge of processor technologies, including CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators
  • Knowledge of accelerator programming technologies such as CUDA and OpenACC
  • Understanding of different MPI implementations and best practices for application performance
  • Experience with parallel file systems such as Lustre and GPFS
  • Experience running and scaling applications and benchmarks on large-scale HPC systems
  • Ability to analyze and assess performance across HPC architectures and system configurations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with leading-edge technologies, identify and resolve issues, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under demanding deadlines
